PS3 Homebrew Apps not Working with PS3Hen 4.91

Last night I redownloaded hen on my ps3 slim and downloaded pkgi along with some games and everything was working perfectly. I wake up today and now have a multitude of problems. Hen does not open unless I hold down r2, multiman doesn't open, pkgi doesn't open, and my games from pkgi don't open. I made sure hen was enabled during this.

Can anyone help me out?

R2 disables plugins, so maybe start there and see what plugins you have in boot_plugins.txt

Hey guys. I'm new here, but I've been messing with homebrew, especially on the PS3 for quite a while now. I'm having a problem where I just can't get Hen to work this morning. Last night, I was able to get Hen to work first try. This morning, Hen either doesn't work, or it completely freezes and locks up. I must add that, on this system it took many tries to get Hen to work in the first place, with the alternate method working best. Most of the time it takes like 4 tries, a restart, and 3 more tries to get Hen working. Is there any way I can get this to work more smoothly on my beloved CECH-3001A with a 1TB CRUCIAL SSD?

The PS3 is not compatible with SSDs.

What do you mean it's not compatible with SSDs? I took the old HDD out and replaced it with a 1TB SATA SSD. It's been working perfectly fine since I did the swap. That's not the problem here.

What I've said, the PS3 is not compatible with SSDs. It may work some time, but issues will arise along the way: data corruption, drive undetected, database rebuild, formatting, among many other software issues.

Your first message stated many issues trying to load HEN, an exploit which has been tested so many times to take up to 2 or 3 tries to load correctly (if the first try fails, the second one will run).

There is a thorough thread about SSDs on the forums: https://www.psx-place.com/threads/guide-ssd-for-playstation-3.42499/

the best word I can think of to describe using an ssd is dubious. you don't know what could happen. it may work well for months, then something may happen. I strongly urge against it because of that.

I've been running it like this for almost a year and a half now. I guess I'm lucky in choosing the MX500, as it is one of the better working SSDs according to that post. I understand your concerns, but can we look into other possibilities. Since Hen is activated through the web browser, I was thinking maybe there's some ideal DNS settings or something or other. My problem isn't described in the SSD post.

I'm assuming you are referring to HEN being installed and running it with the XMB entry. That entry is offline JavaScript that runs, so DNS would have no effect.

Although I would be curious why you are having problems, I would also be curious if you had the same problems with a hard drive.

OK, I'll either clone the drive or set up a fresh HFW install and I'll tell y'all what happens. When I first got into this stuff I still had an HDD, and I remember it being tempermental like it is now, but I'll give it a shot.

Anyone else ever have problems getting a ps3 to recognise what a PS3UPDAT.pup file is? I've used 2 different USB drives, both formatted to FAT32, and it just doesn't recognise that either has 4.91 on it.

Make sure filename is all CAPS.

Some USB drives just don't work. You can also try a HDD on a USB adapter.

Path should be /PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP

I forgot to put it in the folders PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.pup
OK stuck again. No matter if the HDD is completely blank, formatted to exFAT, or formatted to NTFS, I keep getting an error for bad HDD 8002F22F. I know one of my HDDs has some slow blocks but nothing bad yet. Earlier I was able to just stick in the SSD and get hen first try. Anyone else wanna take a turn banging their head against the wall?
