I had a dream that the system cost $730 for some reason. lol I was invited to sony's headquarters to see all the latest from playstation, then they ran that across me on a strip of paper. I was so excited to know the price that I let it slip out.

549$ standard edition
499$ digital edition

Only $50 difference?

Do you expect a expansion standalone external USB drive for digital edition?

By the way, this may sound strange, but global economic situation will actually be critical in PS5 pricing. If Global economy is depressed specially in US and Europe, then Sony would have to cut prices by as much as $100 to prop up sales. Too much? I don't think so because Sony is in this business and plays the long game.

Yeah, an external USB BD drive would be a potential huge security breach, probably they doesnt wants to take that risk :)

I only calculated a difference of 50$ for the BD related parts because are not so expensive to manufacture, but when i was writing my post i was about to increase this difference to 100$
The reason is the PS5 with BD probably needs to pay some licenses, or the software related with video will need to have a better manteinance team, or dunno... the point is not only the price of the parts what counts, maybe there are some more factors to consider
Also, if they really wants to make a impacting offer by reducing the price (to promote the most sales posibles), this price reduction should affect specially to the "digital PS5" model because is the cheap one
So all and all... maybe the digiPS5 is going to be 100$ cheaper... it would not surprise me if they does it

--------------------
And btw... there is a technical detail about this 2 PS5 models that worths to be mentioned... this is going to be lot of fun/pain for us :D
The point is... there are 2 different approaches about what they did to design the motherboards for the PS5
The easy one is having a motherboard common for the 2 PS5 models... but this means the BD controller (chip) needs to be located inside the BD drive... and this means we are going to be again with the same "problem" that happens in the first PS3 models where the BD is "paired" (or married) with the main motherboard :crybaby:

The other approach is to design a motherboard specifically for the PS5 standard version with the BD controller soldered in the motherboard
And another motherboard for the PS5 digital without the BD controller (this allows to reduce the motherboard size a bit)

If the PS5 is coming with the 3D headset the remote control and the hd camera the price will be 599€ i guarantee that. If it comes separately the price will be lower.

I think they are going to make a bundle with the digiPS5 + 1 dualsense + power cable and... thats all
Is like an introductory model to the next gen made in the cheapest way posible, allows to install 6 or 7 games (calculating 100gb each) or more in the internal sdd, thats good enought to use it for the first couple of years, and you can expand it later adding other ssd, etc...

And i doubt the peripherals are going to be included in any bundle, they will increase the price a lot because are going to be like 40$ each or more (specially the headset)

I'm with my buddy here. I think Sony knows MS is going good with this lauch too, so they are not gonna hesitate in losing some money at first just to win the first battle, which is really important for the next years to come. This is 2006 all over again people!

I dont think MS are doing good at launch juat look this shows that much more people are interested in PS5. And its not 2006 over again its a completely different story.

I was referring mainly to PS5 and its new improvements/features, not about Xbox. The PS3 was something different from the PS2, even almost 14 years later.
Sony won't doubt, they will go for everyone, even Xbox or Nintendo users.

Yes, DF too said that the Optical drive cost is about 20$ so it's probably a choice by SONY for push to digital purchases.

The physical games second-hand market is a quite big business. Maybe they want to decrease/eliminate it for improving their earnings, I don't know.

...i was sure you was like me Pinky and not interested at all in newest console.

Aside Resident Evil VIII (wich truly dont look better than the VII) I see nothing truly amazingly interesting yet
Maybe good colored stuff for kids to play online , but nothing for adult "foots on the ground" scenario based game , like the last of us II (wich is probably the only game that came out on PS4 by the way...)

Spider-Man on PS4 look better than the newest version annonced on PS5 also..

since Kojima San will not give birth to a Metal Gear Solid game on PS5 its another thing that made me consider that PS3 is still the console who have the best using RetroArch , ScummVM and PS1-PS2-PS3 Library

I dont know you guys , but i find Demon's Soul truly better on the original than the remastered version.

IMHO , its true that 4K Television mixed with a PS5 would probably LOOK great , but having 4K images with flat story or RARE good games is a purchase killer for me. Im not really impressed so far and im happy to not have spend money on a PS4 and probably will not do for the PS5

IDK about that man. I was recently in the market shopping for a standard 1TB PS4 Slim, prices are starting at about $350 - $399 here in the US. Even for used consoles.. That's inflation, when about a year ago the price mark was about $100 less for the same models.. Ended up snagging a One X for the same price basically... Which was arguably a much better value given the enhancements on the X..

I figure the starting prices will be in the $550 - $650USD range. Pretty ridiculous when you have to consider the cost of games too. Props to anyone out there these days who can afford it, might be better to stay humble and keep it to yourself lmao!

Sony did that even in PS4 (CUH-10xx/11xx), when they already knew very good what that mean then, and what issues it will cause in future for users. So we can safely assume that BD controller will be on BD drive.
So again, broken BD gonna mean useless box under TV. This time for maybe even for all hardware revisions that will include BD reader.

Sony have very good position now. I also think they not gonna sell it cheap at start, people will go for it anyway.

speaking of RE4, I recently watched the texas chainsaw massacre part 2. terrible movie, but I do like bad cinema. it's hilarious stuff.

I agree 100% about the FMV sequencies. As for the game it seems ok for my tastes. Aside for certain details, like the Flamelurker that lost his characteristic scholar of the nineteenth century's look. It excludes theories like this one:

"Flamelurker is the last King of the Burrowers as the design of Flamelurker's head mimics the depiction of the King of the Ancient Burrower's head and circlet on the Stonefang archstone. There is also a sarcophagus in the Flamelurker's chamber, a place of prominence, which is likely the King's final resting place."

I heard about a fidelity mode that firstly made me think about a original graphic mode (just rendered at higher res. and 30/60fps selector), but I think it's simply a opposite setting to a performance mode, like: fidelity = higher resolution; performance = 60fps
