PS3HEN How to install HEN 3.1.0 on HFW 4.89.1 including multiman & webman

Hello everyone,

Today I will show you how to install HFW 4.89.1 with HEN 3.1.0, including webman and multiman.

I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS TO YOURS CONSOLE SUCH AS BANS, BRICKS, OR ANYTHING ELSE.
DO NOT ENABLE FSM (Factory Service Mode) WITH PS3HEN!
DO NOT INSTALL CCAPI WITH PS3HEN!
DO NOT INSTALL SEN ENABLER WITH PS3HEN! IF YOU WANT TO BYPASS THE UPDATE AND STAY ON OLDER FIRMWARE WITH HEN, USE THIS

First of all, you need to download some files that are needed for this:

-HFW 4.89.1 can be downloaded here.
-Multiman can be downloaded here.
-Webman can be downloaded here.

If you want HEN toolbox you must install the updated version for HFW 4.89.1 which is linked below:
HEN Toolbox 4.89

• When you download everything, extract the HFW update file and rename it as PS3UPDAT.PUP . If it is already named like that, leave it as is.

• Now make a folder named PS3
In that folder, make a new folder named UPDATE
In the UPDATE folder move the PS3UPDAT.PUP you just renamed.

Make sure the name of the update and the folders, are exactly the same or the system will not recognize the update.

• After this is done, move the PS3 folder including the firmware update, in the root of your FAT 32 USB stick as you see in the picture and put it in the far right USB slot of your PS3, make sure it is the far right slot.

• Then turn on your PS3.

DO NOT FORMAT IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR GAME SAVES!!! IF YOU FORMAT EVERYTHING IS LOST!
Before we continue I want to point out that I formatted my system so the hard drive is cleaned and there are no files that might mess something up. This is not needed but I prefer to do it. If you want to format your system before updating, do it now, with the USB removed from the PS3 and reconnect it after the formatting is done.
DO NOT FORMAT IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR GAME SAVES!!! IF YOU FORMAT EVERYTHING IS LOST!

• Back to the update, there are two ways of updating your PS3.
The first way is by going to the PS3 menu, in the Settings column, the first option which is System Update. Choose System Update, then choose Update via Storage Media and it should detect the USB with the Update inside.

• The second method is by going in the Recovery Menu/Safe Mode. This is the method I am going to use and you can see here how it is done:

-------------------------------------------
Before continuing, I want to say that I installed the firmware twice, just to make sure every single file is correctly installed and any older file is replaced. This is not needed but I prefer to do it.

• With that being said, after the firmware is successfully installed, go to the Network column and open your Internet Browser. Press triangle, go to Tools, go to Confirm Browser Close and disable it as you see in the picture here. Please make sure you do not forget this.

If you want you can set as your homepage the HEN install website which is **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new) If you want to change your homepage press triangle, go to Tools and then select homepage. For me that was already done so I did not change anything.

• Once you are on the website(**ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new)) in your PS3 browser, press on PS3HEN and select:
HEN Installer/Enabler
If you choose this method, everything installs automatically.

or

HEN Installer (Alternate)

If you choose the alternate method please follow the instructions given on screen!

If the installation fails, do not worry. If anything fails, restart your PS3, then open the browser, press triangle, delete cookies, delete search history and delete cache, close the browser, then reopen it and begin the installation again. Have patience and be careful not to press something wrong.
-------------------------------------------
After HEN is installed, reboot your console, go to Game column and Enable HEN.
You now have HEN on the latest available firmware. :cheese:

I will continue with showing you how to install homebrew, specifically webman and multiman but it is not a requirement for HEN. But you know, without any of these, why installing HEN in the first place :-p

In the beginning of the tutorial, I told you to download some files, so the only thing you need to do now, is put the pkg files in the root of your FAT 32 USB stick.

5.png

After that, plug your USB stick in your PS3, in the far right slot, make sure it is the far right one.

•Enable Hen and Install both PKG files through:
★Package Manager >> ★Install Package Files >> Standard

•Once both PKGs are installed:
Go to the webman icon, press X and when the screen goes black hold L1 to install the full version.
The console will reboot and webman will be installed.

•Now open multiman and it will install itself too, so just wait for it.

Im also going to show how to setup webman if you want to mod or use rtm tools and stuff. If the settings are already like that, then just quit webman.

You now have everything that is needed for a full HEN experience. :xmashigh5:

the images are actually webpages with the image...and ads...

@AggelosCoding you can save the images from those pages and then do as aldostools says to add them.

BTW don't mention formatting anything unless something must be formatted...because somebody will format and lose saves.

EDIT:
you should also add sen-enabler to the "do not install on hen" list.

Haha I had my doubts too about mentioning the format part...I added more red so its surely not missable:-p Thanks for mentioning SEN Enabler too;)

Great tutorial mate. :encouragement:

Have you had any luck installing HEN Toolbox on this latest version? I re enabled it via the option in the XMB menu, now when enabling HEN it shows the previous loading logo instead of the new one in this release, before it crashes completely.

I'm going to install HEN again from the website tomorrow, hopefully that will fix it. It could just be me, but I'd reccomend nobody enables it yet until we get more information.

As @Coro mentioned right above, you need to download and install the new version of HEN toolbox that supports 4.87! That most definitely will fix your problem...have fun:D

Cheers guys, really appreciate it. :encouragement::encouragement:

To fix it I had to run the hen installer again via the browser so that I got access to some options in the XMB, (package manager didn't appear). I then went into Hybrid Firmware Tools and PS3HEN Updater, downloaded and installed the update again, and finally it's working.

I then installed the new HEN Toolbox and it's working perfectly.
It might be worth adding the link to the new version of HEN Toolbox in the original post, and a warning advising not to re apply the previously installed version.

It would be amazing if we had a troubleshoot mode that we could boot into added in a future update.

Added HEN toolbox links to prevent anyone from using older pkgs, good point;)

I followed these steps perfectly, and for some reason when I tried going to the web browser the initialize button does nothing. Same thing with alternative installer. It does not even activate or do anything; the website clicks the button then it stays the same as if nothing happened. It isn't even installing, it's just blank. My firmware is up to date and i installed through both system update and then safe mode. I also put the .bin, .pkg and toolkit files in my root for the usb drive i'm using.
I'm at the end of my rope here, what can I do?

Not sure if this matters but I updated my firmware from 4.85 HFW to 4.87.1 HFW and am trying to reinstall hen.

you can try this method also.

Hi,

first of all, thanks for the files and the walkthrough!
As this is my first time I'v installed HFW and HEN, it went pretty smooth.

But I have one issue with Webman, when opening the setup folder there's nothing in it... Any idea how to fix this bug?
FYI: I can browse to http://localhost/setup.ps3/sman.ps3 which takes me to the webman setup page.

Nevermind, I've deleted webman, changed system language to English and reinstalled. All good now.

Hey man, thanks a lot for the guide

Just bought an used PS3 CECH-3001A (non CFW compatible) and followed your steps as I'm a total noob in PS3 jailbreak.

I'm on 4.87.1 with HEN enabled now, so that part is ok. Only problem is that Webman doesnt work at all... Almost anything I try to do with it makes PS3 freeze : load games, refresh XML, etc. And I have to hard reset the console and pass a data check everytime it does.

Also when Webman is installed Multiman freezes the same way when launching it! When I desinstall Webman, Multiman then works correctly and I can play games on it, etc.

So Webman isnt working at all for me and seems to be causing conflicts in some way, it crashes all the time. How could I fix that?

I already tried to delete / reinstall it. Changed system language to english and reinstalled it. Also reset / format the console, reinstalled HFW 4.87.1, HEN and just Webman, still does the same thing.

Hello there! Glad I could help!

Are you installing the full version of Webman or the lite version? I've heard people had same issues with the full version but lite version worked fine, if you have the time install the lite version to see if that works.

If webman lite works fine, install multiman and see if that works with webman lite. If you dont encounter any issues let me know!

Im not sure why that happens but maybe there is an issue with boot_plugins.txt.
What you can do is enable HEN and install multiman since that works fine with your system.
Open multiman and use File Manager / mmOS (under the far left column named mmCM)
There open ΡS3 Root and go to dev_hdd0
Scroll down using the dpad until you see boot_plugins.txt
Hover over it, press O and delete it.
Close multiman, install full webman version, reboot, enable hen and see if that did the trick

Thanks a lot for your help. Just got back home, I'll try everything you said and report back!

By the way before your post I uninstalled Webman 1.47.34, and tried a previous version (1.47.32). This one didnt freeze at all, as I could refresh XML, etc. But when I tried to launch a PS1 backup from hdd It looked like it worked it but I just ended up with a black screen and no game, had to reboot the PS3.

I could uninstall 1.47.32 without issue (1.47.34 also freezes the system when i select uninstall, even if it works)

I'll go try 1.47.34 again, as you said I always used full install (with L1) till now, will try lite this time! And check the boot plugins.

Forgot to mention I can use the ftp from my computer with 1.47.34 and access all the files. It only freezes when doing Webman stuff on the console!
