PS3 How to properly install .pkg games on CFW Evilnat 4.88.2?

Hey, guys

I purchased a CFW capable PS3 slim about 3-4 months ago and I installed Ferrox 4.87 CFW and 3 games; two as ISOs and one as PKG. I can run the ISO games without issues, but the PKG game displays the following message:

This content can be used if you renew the license in PlayStation Store.

I copied the game's .rap file to the correct location (/dev_hdd0/exdata), but that didn't help.

After that, I didn't use the console again for about 2 months. When I returned a few days ago, I learned that Sony has released firmware 4.88 and that there's no Ferrox 4.88, so I decided to install today the Evilnat 4.88.2, The installation was successful, but the problem remained, as expected.

In a Google search, I found that some people use SEN Enabler to properly install pkg games (like in this tutorial), but it seems that at the moment I'm writing this post, this homebrew is not available yet for Evilnat 4.88.

So I would like to ask: How can we properly install pkg games on Evilnat 4.88.2? Is there any sort of built-in tool in this CFW that does that?

Thanks in advance.

You need to activate your PS3 account first.
Do you log in / go online with a real account or do you use a fake account / offline?
If you use a fake account / offline, there are tools in the network category, it's something named like CFW Tools. There, go to PSN subcategory and you can activate your fake account.

When I purchased the console, I remember that I logged into PSN using my real PSN account (the same account that I use for my PS4 and my modded PS Vita), but that was all. After modding the console, I keep the completely console offline as I'm still unsure about how to use a modded PS3 online/connected to the PSN.

So if I got it correctly (from this source), I should do this:

Sign in to PSN on your PS3™ system. Select
in_psn.gif
(PlayStation™Network) >
in_accountmng.gif
(Account Management) >
in_sysact.gif
(System Activation), and then follow the on-screen instructions.

Is that correct?
If so, is it safe to activate using my real PSN account?

I found a reddit response saying that I need to install the PSNPatch homebrew in order to disable cfw syscalls. But I remember having read that Evilnat 4.88 can do that. Is that correct?

Evilnat 4.88.2 CFW won't let you connect to PSN without disabling the custom syscalls first.
The feature you need can be found on XMB in CFW Tools.

Safe is not the right word to describe psn login for console activation, there is always a risk, even if it is small, connecting to PSN with a modified console is a breach of TC.
Nowadays it looks like s#ny doesn't really bother with bans & it's mostly game servers that dish out bans but still.
Let's say it's "quite safe".

Regarding psn games.
When you activate the system, an official act.dat file is created.
When you install a PSN game, the idps & the act.dat are used to process the game rap file & generate a rif license.
So basically a rif license, the idps & the act.dat are interlinked, change one of them & the PSN game won't be able to start.
To avoid needing PSN to reinstall PSN games, it's recommended to keep a backup of the game pkg & the associated rap file.
That way, in the future, if you must reinstall the system, activating via PSN would not be compulsory, you could just use a fake act.dat generated by the CFW, install your games & create valid licenses.

In CFW tools you should find an option to create license rif files from rap files, another to generate a fake act.dat etc..

Thanks for the hint, guys. I solved the issue. This is what I did:

First step: Disabled Syscalls through Evilnat 4.88.2 menu:
Network >Custom Firmware Tools > PSN Tools > Disable Syscalls

A message at the top right of the screen was displayed:
Syscall disable and history files deleted

Second step: Sign in to PSN

Third step: System activation, navigating through the following menu options:
PlayStation Network > Account Management > System Activation > PS3 System, select GAME and then press on ACTIVATE.

After that, I just restarted the console and voilà, the game is running without any problem. Yet, it was a nice surprise, because I saw somewhere saying that I should use the PSN Patcher to validate the .rap file, which wasn't the case.

Yeah, I realized that when I selected the Sign in in the PSN menu without disabling the custom syscalls (my intention was not to connect to the PSN, but just to see if my login credentials were filled for future login).

That's really a neat feature!

I have one or maybe two questions about connecting to the PSN with a modded console and I'm not sure if I can find the answers that I'm looking for in the older topics (specially after the last update, where things might have changed), so maybe it would be better to start a new topic about that.

Once the system is activated (using my main PSN account), if I install other pkg games, I will always have to use the CFW tool option to create a license rif files from the rap file using the real act.dat file (the one created when I activated the system)?

Once you have a valid act.dat file (which means that the console is activated) then there is no need to disable syscalls in order to execute the packages. All that is needed are the PKG files and their corresponding RAP licences to install them correctly.

I'm also having trouble installing PKGs onto Evilnat it just hangs on "Please wait" and then nothing I did resign them with PS3exploit tool.

Sorry for the necro.
I have the same issue and when I click the game to launch it displays the following message

To access this content, you must activate this system.
Sign in with the account that was used to purchase this content, select...under PSN..., and then activate this system (80029514)

The account I have was not the original purchase account, can I still activate via PSN or should I use the evilnat option to create an act.dat?

That could be a problem unless you have your rap files. I think you can do either with activating your account on cfw. The original purpose afaik behind activating content on another account is the fact of being locked out of your purchased content if banned, but it's often abused for piracy reasons.

You'll have to create a new local user on your PS3 or use Evilnat's CFW Tools to remove the current PSN account from your local user.

Bear in mind that removing the current PSN account will render all its associated content unusable.

I have a new local user and a new PSN account. Prior to signing in to PSN attempting to launch the game would result in a "sign in to PSN" message, hence why I created an account and signed in. If I remove the PSN account I would presumably end up stuck at that error message.

That's because your new account is not the owner of the game. You must purchase it from the PS Store.
