@hugopocked
It seems to me that to avoid this kind of confrontation, my friend hugopocked, with all due respect,
you should acknowledge that you're misusing the term "donation" when in reality it's a transaction.
That's the root of the problem.
Then, if you want to charge for your work, that's a different matter, and if it works for you, then go ahead and there wouldn't be any problem with that.
Here are the terms:
Transaction
From Late Latin transactio, -ōnis.
f. The action and effect of compromising.
f. Deal, agreement, business.
Syn:
deal, exchange, agreement, convention, business, negotiation, commitment, stipulation, trade.
Donation
f. The action and effect of donating.
Syn:
donation, offering, concession, offering, gift, present, gift, dowry, legacy, bequest, alms, favor.
f. Der. The liberality of someone who freely transfers something that belongs to them to another person who accepts it.
Now, take your time to consider what they're proposing. I think that if you release the patches, you'd save yourself a lot of work with the testing. With a small sample size, it's logical that a complete test isn't done, just a superficial one, as you yourself mention.
The larger the sample size, the faster a patch is verified to be fully functional, and the chances of donations increase. Although they're not guaranteed, what is certain is the benefit to the gaming community and the satisfaction you have that you made it possible, at least through the passion you put into it.
Stress is also reduced by not having a contract pressuring your efforts.
I emphasize that whatever your decision is, it is respected; you have the final say.
