PS4 Hypothetical question

If you bought a game for a jb PS4, and the game required a higher firmware, would downloading a backport be considered piracy? It's a hypothetical question I was thinking of. Obviously, Sony would consider it unauthorized software.

well, I was more curious if people thought it was piracy rather than if piracy was right or wrong. I don't have a ps4 or even a hacked ps3/5. I'm well aware that these companies are not our friends, but I enjoy gaming anyway (playing ys x demo now on ps5). I think if I hated these companies, I wouldn't want to play their games at all. in fact, gaming has helped a lot with my depression, since I'm on disability and isolated. in fact, I once thought about writing a letter to Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft (especially Nintendo though), about how their games have helped me cope.

If you asking about personal view, for me it is not piracy at all. From law view, depend of country law. In Poland that is legal if you not sharing it (eg. torrents are sharing, even if you share with other ppl just one byte) and if you have the original game of course. In UK in example, not legal at all, even single thought about it. :D From company point of view illegal but companies not making laws so i using their licenses as toilet paper. ;)

Yeah, I was asking people's personal views on the subject. Sony refers to it as unauthorized software, because there's no way to differentiate between a backup and a pirated game. I was curious what people thought about it. Thanks for your response.

Your point about companies not making laws is debatable, specially in the USA. Though I agree with your opinion.

I might also say I haven't used a torrent in like 20 years or so. when I was at OU (University of Oklahoma, my alma mater), I was using usenet, have been since then, and that was around 2010. anyway, when I was there, the staff sent a mass email saying they had received over 10,000 copyright infringement emails, so they instituted a three-strikes rule. I never got in trouble for downloading, because I was using usenet, so I wasn't directly connected to anyone. I still use it, though I don't pirate games
