Install CFW without USB

Is there a way I can install CFW because I don't currently have a way to put files on USB because my computer drive failed? I already have my system patched.

going straight to the point:
No.
Going straight to the point, what you said is not accurate.

Like mentioned above you can use burned CD/DVD/BD which is the best solution really, also a bit trickier for the average user, but it is possible to redirect the ps3updatelist.txt that contains the URL for the latest PUP, this can be done with DNS or other methods.

Seriously?
I didn't know that there was also this way of installing unlocking on the device, is this way of installing CFW newer or has it been released for a long time?
Does the system recognize it normally or does it need to 'move' elsewhere?
And with HFW/HEN, can I also install it that way, or for now only on CFW?
By the way, I apologize for the previous answer, I was inconvenient, I should have said that I didn't know any other way other than USB instead of saying that there are no other possibilities, it was my mistake:D

It is an official and legit way of updating your console. I've discovered this way here on the forums, because it's nowhere to be found on Sony's documents (perhaps their engineers thought that it was obvious... or they forgot to write it down in the manuals).

You can even update your FW with games that include a FW update PUP.

Anyways, to sum up ways of updating your PS3 FW:
  1. USB drive (with folder structure /PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP).
  2. CD/DVD/Bluray (with folder structure /PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP).
  3. Internet (by using a custom local proxy to redirect the update URI to your local web server).

Seriously?

It's just a way to install FW.. it has always been like this even on OFW. It basically checks all available devices, if there is a card reader it checks those too.

It's not an exploit or anything, just normal way to install FW, works on OFW or CFW. Obviously it will only allow you to install from optical disc if your console is already exploited.

No worries, I just want the forum to be correct, someone can be reading this in a few years and might get the wrong idea.

Sounds ridiculously complicated method just to bypass the need to use a USB disk. Also if your computer failed I doubt you'll be able to configure and host a local proxy or DNS server. Actually for USB you don't even need a computer - use a cheap USB-OTG adapter and you can create the necessary structure using any Android smartphone.

damn, that's cool, as soon as I get another PS3 for testing I'll test this method.

Well, I already passed the OFW files and even HFW by OTG and it worked normal....

But I had problems in the last few days when trying to change the HD of my SS, I put an SSD and when formatting the yellow LED did not flash (and I already installed that same SSD a few months ago and it flashed when formatting) and then I show that the OFW data were corrupt, formatted the flash drive and redownloaded the update, tried and again, corrupted update.
I don't think it has anything to do with it, but before putting the SSD on the PS3 I formatted it in FAT32 and named it SSD, I don't know if having a "name" saved on the SSD can interfere with its identification, but I haven't even tried again in the last few days If anyone has an idea, I'll take it.:D

If you have a CD burner and a blank CD-R, you can use it to update your PS3. Just burn the PUP into a CD or DVD and launch it through Settings -> System Update -> Update via Storage Media.

You must abide the same folder structure used on a USB stick: PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP.
That's what I did lol, I've even labeled my discs as well putting EvilNat as red and HEN as orange.

Before anything, which FW has your console at the moment?. You can not install CFW if your PS3 is on OFW 3.56 or above.

If your PS3 is on CFW, you can create the structure /PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP (with the PUP being your desired CFW) and burn it to a CD or DVD.

You can also QA Flag your PS3 and enable the Debug Update feature which allows you to install any FW from your HDD. Here is a tutorial: https://www.psx-place.com/threads/how-to-use-debug-update-tutorial-by-pinky.158/

My console is on OFW 4.89. I was able to connect to bgtoolset and its cwf compatible but i dont have any working usb ports and im using the smart tv controler to access the ps3.

Well, in that case the easiest approach would be to burn a CD with the CFW PUP. The issue here is to get those USB ports fixed ASAP.

If QA flags are enabled, it is possible to install the PUP from /dev_hdd0/updater/01 and update via Settings > System Update > System Storage. You can put multiple PUP file and they can have any file name (the file extension is optional)

It is required to have enabled Update debug from the Debug Settings menu (Down+L1+R1+L2+R2+L3)

If im able to jailbreak with a cd, what will i need the usb for? Can you download games directly on ps3 and use a file manager?

USBs are needed to charge the PS3 controllers, at least the original ones (not the fake chinese replicas). Also, USB ports allows you to connect external HDDs to run game backups and homebrews, enabling you to not fill the internal HDD.

You cannot install CFW by official bgtoolset because it is down for now. Unofficial - which means stolen and incomplete - are danger because You risking perm brick and/or stealing SEN login/password, U-Play login/password, credit card number (including CVV2 if they are still saving such info in xRegistry) and IDPS. I strongly suggest to wait for official bgtoolset or install HEN for now.

I went to the console repair and they said usb ports might not me able to repair.
Was able to install HEN, after that i burned multiman onto the dvd but i wasnt able to find it in the package manager anywhere.
My problem now is how can i install packages directly on the ps3?
