Installing HEN on HFW 4.87 (without waiting for update)

HEN has been updated officially now.

If you have already upgraded to HFW 4.87, you must have noticed that HEN hasn't been updated and the installers don't work! Don't worry! Don't fret! There is still a way...okay at least three ways so far...

First method: @zecoxao hosted a modified ps3xploit mirror via github HERE.

Second method: @lmn7 updated his Auto HEN Installer for 4.87. The files are HERE. (Be sure to read OP in that thread if you have never used it before). You can use it offline or host it online.

Third method: I have uploaded a modified html to a free host (you can also host on local webserver for offline install). You will need to copy some files to a usb memory stick and plug it into your PS3 first. Just follow the instructions in next post.

This will install FULL HEN 3.01 on HFW 4.87. It will use the 4.86 files to do so. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! This is an unofficial work-around!!

The webpage is just the usb enabler html included in the 4.86 HEN release zip but it was modified to allow installation on 4.87 HFW. After installation, remove the usb device and use the normal "Enable HEN" icon on xmb.

Instructions:

  1. Download HEN 4.86 PKG file. Rename it to "HEN_UPD.pkg" and put it in root of usb.
  2. Download PS3HEN.p3t file. Rename it to "PS3HEN.BIN" and put it in root of usb.
  3. Download "henenabler487.pkg" at bottom of post. Put it in root of usb. (This file will make the "Enable HEN" icon work under 4.87)
  4. Plug usb device into usb slot closest to disc drive.
  5. Set PS3 browser homepage to [link removed]. (Or to your own local webserver hosting the file attached in next post below)
  6. Restart PS3 and open browser.
  7. After HEN enables, it will install "HEN_UPG.pkg" automatically. (If HEN doesn't enable, make sure PS3HEN.BIN is on usb and you are using the correct usb slot).
  8. After installation finishes, highlight "Remote Play" icon and press X.
  9. After the screen changes, press O to exit.
  10. Open Package Manager and install "henenabler.pkg" from usb.
  11. Remove USB device and reboot PS3 when done.

From now on, use "Enable HEN" icon on xmb to start HEN. (If HEN doesn't start, you probably didn't install the "henenabler487.pkg".)

If you dont remove the usb device, the HEN_UPD.pkg will be automatically installed again when you enable hen! It is best to delete it when you are sure you are done with it (so it doesn't mess up your "Enable HEN" icon again).

ONCE THE OFFICIAL UPDATE DROPS, YOU SHOULD INSTALL AND USE IT!!! After the update is online, HEN should auto-update itself when you enable HEN while connected to the internet.

Hi

I just picked up a PS3 the other day try try to jailbreak as I have only ever done Nintedno consoles. Will this work for me to Jailbfreak the PS3 which is at 4.87? Totally new to Playstation hacking other than the PS1 classic mini which is as easy as the Wii, Wii U, Nes and Snes units I have done
