PS5 Interesting placement

I usually put it horizontally or vertically, and it runs fine. But one day I saw a video that showed that placing it vertically caused the liquid metal to be pulled out of the center of the wafer by gravity and become oxidized. I turned it upside down (top side down), and the result was surprising,it overheat immediately when running the game.

The contact surface between the APU and the heat sink maybe uneven, and when inverted, the liquid metal flows to the outer edge and causes overheating.

I've never had my PS5 overheat, but I've heard of several people whose PS5s overheated with final fantasy xvi, including with just the demo. Mine didn't luckily, and I beat the demo. My console did suddenly shut off once while playing astro bot. I'm not sure why.

I didn't have any overheating issues,I just used weird placement to cause overheating,I followed the maintenance guy's advice in horizontal position.

well, the weird thing is that it didn't say it overheated. the system just shut off for no reason.
Ok I need to correct that, I meant there was no overheating issue before, apparently I turned it upside down which caused it to overheat apparently because the fan sped up before shutting it off.

well, in my case, I heard no fan speeding up. I read of several others that astro bot caused the shutting off of the console. I know that the ps3 does say something if the system is getting too hot. I have a hard time believing the ps4 or 5 just shut down or essentially crash for no apparent reason as a result of overheating. in my case, the console wasn't even hot, barely warm in fact, so maybe it was a coding issue?

I'm not sure, maybe a system crash? I've only had a few time game crashes, but they didn't cause the power off.

Dunno. I read about several others encountering this same issue. I had bought the game digitally originally, and I got a refund from Sony after I told them what had happened. I later bought the game on disc, so I could sell it if I had the same problem. This time I copied it to internal storage instead of the m.2. so far, so good. It's a very fun game too.

Interesting, were you installing it on an SSD when the problem occurred? I don't think it's a problem with the SSD, the ps5 would refuse to install it if it can't reach the rated speed.

I've only purchased a few digital games, I haven't initiated a refund, and I love them.
My favorite game, dkc returns HD, was playable at like 11. The companies are good in general, at least with my experience. I know Nintendo is the most hated, but they did go out of their way to replace my broken joycon.
