I disagree considering that any model on any firmware has the potential to run homebrew.
The userbase might be its biggest ever in reality if you really think about it.
Well I should rephrase our developers are not as plentiful & active. Do not get me wrong I think it would be amazing.
Seeing as how the dev behind this has made the source code read-only due to the issues with the dev and RetroArch. Things have been in place to start the ground work for some emulators that need dynamic recompilation but most capable just have no desire to do work for the PS3.
We do have some amazing devs still around and sticking to the grind and I applaud them for that but realistically majority have moved on without looking back. And yes the user base thanks to HEN is pretty big but that is users not devs. Then let's be honest most aren't around for homebrew.
Most only want their WAREZ and do really see the actual homebrew as a "it is kinda cool" but even that most that use emulation are playing illegally obtained ROM files. This is seen throughout the community with little to no regard about being respectful to the developers. 98% do not mention the devs, actual source of said file/info. Let alone saying thanks or donations. So quoting Dazed and Confused "It is about quality not quantity"
Devil's XMB stuff is offline. We are in danger of HEN maybe facing the same issue as seems getting together and donations for this is like asking to pull teeth. The one site I never saw going offline was Rebug but alas it is dead and the Team are retired more or less.
I am just being practical about the state of things. While the scene still has a pulse and I do not see it ever dying off but a resurgence is very very unlikely. But hey I have been wrong before the OG Xbox just saw a new BIOS announced yesterday that is just an amazing feat now supporting up to 8tb drives and more.
I get folks want more for the system. It is truly amazing but the user base gives little incentive for someone to take up such a huge undertaking. If we could actually do something to entice someone or some group to want to work on the system. These are just my opinions but seem to reflect the state of things in my eyes.
