well, I wouldn't learn on something I intended to use. I don't know about rgh (the chips), since I have two jtags, but generally both systems function the same way. there's just a different method in hacking them.

Agreed. If you have any old PC components laying around, or any old, junk electronics with a printed circuit board, stuff like that is great to practice on. My soldering ability is total rubbish, but anytime I have to solder something tricky or sensative, I pull some old junk out of my shed to "warm up" on first.

I learned to solder back before YouTube was a thing, but I'm willing to bet someone around here has a link to a solid beginner's tutorial. It's a fun and frustrating skill to develop... and it opens so many doors in the world of modern tinkering.

In my case in particular, I got an X360 pro 6 mos after release for $120 and a 30 pack of cheap beer (pro had a busted optical drive, I bought broken base model for next to nothing and gave a friend the beer for swapping the boards). That was around 10 yrs ago, I think. Console still works flawlessly.

I had to sell my tools a long time ago when I got on disability. I ran out of money in like six months. anyway, all I have now is a collection of screwdrivers. I can fix most things with the 360, hdd, or controller, since I've opened them up enough times, but I no longer have any soldering tools. I usually just fix controllers now or a rechargeable battery pack if there's a scratch on them or the pack no longer charges. I need to reshell my adjustable dpad controller. I've replaced the dpad several times, because it sucks and develops these hairline cracks unless you rotate it periodically. anyway, the controller has a few nicks. I once made a controller with a red top and white bottom, when the other sides of those controller shells were broken. lol

Well, I'll make use of what I find then.

First things first tho. Need to find a nand cable (as my jr programmer v2 didn't have one) that ships from within EU and don't bankrupt me. So far I've only found it for 15-20€ incl shipping, and that's a bit steep for such a small cable IMHO.

I think jr programmer dont work with nand cable. For RGH (whitch is the best one method today) You solder 7 wires to the motherboard to read and then write modified flash, and then desolder this wires and solder the cool runner. You dont need thed nand cable.
