Is there a way to dump games from Blu-ray disc to external USB-HDD directly?

Hello everyone! I'm new.

I've recently decided to jailbreak my PS3 Superslim by installing HEN. Everything worked as intended, but I've run into some trouble backing up my physical games collection. Multiman didn't recognize the discs except when switching mode (forgot what it was called). But then I got an error message when trying to copy the game. Another PS3 game wasn't recognized at all and a third was displayed as a PS1 disc for some reason.

Naturally I decided to give Irisman a try instead and everything worked a lot better. The only issue I have with Irisman is that I can't seem to find a way to copy the game over to my external drive immediately. I've just backed up FFXIII and it took ~80 minutes to copy from disc to internal hdd and another 60 or so to copy to the external drive. Granted FFXIII is pretty much as big as PS3 games get, but looking at my collection it'll still take a long time to back it up entirely. I'm wondering if there is a way to dump the disc-based game directly onto the external drive.

Probably not. Multiman would be good for that except that its giving you in particular issues. I just conjured up 2 things you can try. Let me know if they work.

1.) Buy a full external Blu-ray player and just do it that way (but i guess it wont work or ps3)
2.) Get a PS3 that supports full CFW (ex: Rebug)
3.) Wait.... Patience is a virtue

Thanks for the response. It seems I've found a different solution. I figured out a way to make my WD 4TB external drive function with NTFS file system. At least for now both partitions are readable (I hope it stays that way as the drive fills up). It turns out that Irisman can directly dump to USB when creating an ISO, so that's what I'm doing now that I have no issue with >4GB files anymore. I heard that compatibility is better with iso compared to jb folders so that's a win win.

In mmCM, whenever I am dumping a disc there has always been the option to copy it to external hard drive, usb stick or hdd directly

So the answer is yes you can always dump to an external device but I am also not sure if mmCM will always notice an NTFS drive unless it has been formatted properly.

(But of course PS2ISOs only work from internal)

That is why I use FAT32 with 64kb clusters on my 4TB WD external because NTFS drives working on my console has always been VERY PICKY

But if NTFS is actually working for you and truly allowing you to use all 4 of those terabytes then that is great :)

Yeah, to be fair it's probably too early to tell how well it'll all work in the long run. All I know is that it recognises both partitions and game isos can be mounted and played from both partitions for now.

Multiman was my first choice, but for some reason it had trouble even reading the discs correctly. Maybe a reinstall would fix it, but for now the Irisman method works well.

As for PS2, I'll have to see what method works best for me. I know that external is out of the question, but I have 500GB internal and another 1TB external drive which I can use to store the games I'm not playing (That's probably way more space than I'll ever need). I'll probably try to rip some PS2 games tomorrow to see what's the best way of dealing with PS2 games.
