PS2 Is there a way to remap buttons from controller 2 to controller 1?

While looking through the Klonoa 2 manual, I noticed that there is a co-op mode of sorts, where the second controller can press Start to bring Popka out of the Ring, then Square to launch Klonoa. I was wondering if there was a way to map those two buttons to the unused buttons on the first controller: Select and R2, respectively. All the remapping cheats I've seen only support controller one.

From what I understood, do you intend to assign buttons from controller 2 to controller 1? That is rather a programming issue of the game company itself.

Port 1 will always recognize the connected control as control 1, port 2 will always recognize the connected control as control 2.
