Is there CFW for OFW 4.87?

Sorry if this is a noob question but I've been reading posts for the past few hours and can't figure this out.

I have a ps3 that is on OFW 4.87. Can I jailbreak this? Could I install 4.87.1 hfw, flash with ps3xploit, then install something like Ferrox Cobra 4.87? Would that allow me to play backups?

Or could I install an older rebug after the ps3xploit flash?

So confused about the options rn.

what is your model number? cech-??

not all models can have cfw. you can use hen if you can not have cfw.

you can use cfw! use the bgtoolset from ps3xploit to jailbreak.

you must start with 4.87 cfw, but you can enable qa flag and then downgrade if you want after. the only 4.87 cfws right now are evilnat and ferrox.

Thanks! Now it makes sense- I started by reading a guide written for 4.85 and got so confused about how it all fit together. Would I be able to downgrade to any cfw? I've read that rebug is very popular, but only works with DEX? The ferrox cfw seemed to list a lot of features- are there any particular features it's missing or that makes rebug so preferable?

I haven't tested it, but something that called my attention in this CFW is that the dev_flash contains a stage2.dex and other dex files.

after enabling qa flag (it will stay enabled after), yes you can install any fw version.

rebug has 3 flavors. 4.86 lite is normal cfw. rex 4.84 is cex/dex mixed but used as cex. d-rex 4.84 is dex. i recommend 4.86 lite or 4.84 rex for more features.

rebug has been around a long time so it has sort of become the standard. it also has rebug toolbox. the toolbox will run on other cfw but not all features work with non-rebug cfw.

DEX changes various system files that allow to debug processes remotely using ProDG Target Manager (TMAPI) and has additional options in XMB. It is the preferred version for cheaters and customization.

CEX mode with Cobra debug + PS3MAPI offers several debug options too. For instance, I only use CEX in my development projects.

Yeah, those dex files called my attention too and this is weird, this cfw use a 4.87 dex vsh (the ★ Debug Settings were present), i don't really know how it is possible...
(btw, just to test i grabbed the vsh.self from this cfw and tried it with the Evilnat Cobra Cfw and it worked)
Maybe it is a 4.84 vsh.self patched to work in 4.87?
(iirc a 4.84 vsh.self(for exemple) only work in 4.84 whereas sprx files can work in some other firmware)
Or maybe... there is a 4.87 dex firmware in the wild?

I also think this is a hybrid CFW 4.87 CEX with files from 4.84 DEX patched to work on 4.87.
Anyway the changes in the LV1/LV2 kernels are minimal since 4.75 (with exception of 4.80)

Months ago I have suggested to do this to @Joonie, but Rebug team do not accept this kind of "Frankenstein monster".
I think it would be nice if he could take a look to this CFW.

I would love to see a "Ravioli CFW 4.87.1 REX" made by master @Joonie
