Is this broken PS3 slim worth buying?

Hi all!

I've come across to a listing of a PS3 Slim (CECH-2504B, date code 0C), owner says HDD failed and got it replaced but can't get the firmware installed because dualshock disconnects.

I think owner doesn't have an original DS3 and that's why can't get the firmware installed, i have two original DS3s so it would be an easy fix for me if i'm correct, but i want to ask if it's possible to be something else? (more complex, mainboard issues etc.)

The seller isn't in my city so i can't go and try with my DS3. Thanks.

I wouldn't buy it. it could be a more serious problem. well, it really depends on the price I guess. slims don't go for that much, even ones that can have cfw put on them. it's superslims that are the expensive ones, at least from my experience.

i have two different brands of non-sony controllers that work in recovery mode.

maybe the seller does not know that the usb wire must be plugged in even for wireless ones while in recovery mode. or maybe the usb ports are broken?

I figure something is broken, but I had forgotten about needing to have the controller plugged in. :P my official dual shock 4 won't work in the recovery menu of the pstv for some reason (while plugged in), but a fake dual shock 3 does. though, on the livearea, the dualshock 3 doesn't work unless plugged in, and the dualshock 4 works perfectly fine wireless. I'm not sure what the problem is unless the ds4 is actually fake. though, I couldn't get it to connect with my ps4's controller either. could be a bug of some sort.

Yes, but it depends on what's wrong with it.

I've bought 2x Second hand PS3 Slims in the last month that won't read discs .. everything else is fine (power, hdd etc)

The first one i bought was $25 (AUD) which i thought was a bargain ... couple weeks later picked up another for $10 !

Both won't read discs, so i Jailbroke both of them and they play games from Internal and External hard drives just fine
