Is this still on CFW ?

So my nephew's PS3 was running CFW 4.76 CEX and he accidentally upgraded to 4.78 OFW. However the update fails at 75% when installing.

The PS3 still asking for firmware 4.76 or later. Not 4.78

I have tried to install 4.76 CFW again with another HDD of course since the old one just keep installing update.
But right after the PS3 preparing the update it says "The Update Data Corrupted"

So before i messed up with this PS3. I would like to ask is this still on CFW ? Does there something i can do to install CFW again without flasher ?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

go to system settings/system information. what does it say? if it says 4.76, hold down L1, R1, square, and left on the directional pad. hold for a few seconds. let go, and push and hold start. what does it say? firmware and build number from the version.txt should appear.

Thanks for quick reply
The problem is i can't go into xmb
the PS3 stuck installing an update which is an OFW but fails at 75%. Its a loop.

Already tried to install 9.99 downgrader from rebug on newly formatted hdd but no luck.
Gonna try the RSOD fix one and will let you know how it goes.

turn off the console, enter recovery mode and install the downgrader from there, once in the downgrader install 3.55 ofw and then update to latest rebug

Yea see if you can access recovery mode. I also suggest installing a "burner" HDD that is freshly PC formatted just for good measure if you can.

So the problem started while accidentally updating to ofw 4.78 and stopping at 75‰, and going into an update loop. After using another hdd it now is asking for 4.76. My guess is it has installed enough of the ofw so now won't take the cfw without flashing it, but not fully to change ros0/ros1 so that's why it's still asking for 4.76.. But the big question is why why did it fail the update to ofw? What was the error message it threw when it stopped at 75‰?

I think you still have a chance. I don't think your CoreOS was updated, Try installing this cfw

This actually Works! Thanks so much Joonie!
After a few failed tries to install CFW on new HDD i switched back to the old one and the update loop has gone.
While still asking for update data 4.76 and later i grab the PUP from your link and BOOM Im on CFW again.
Save data and trophies still there too.

I also wondering why the OFW update fails at 75%. Maybe corrupted update data or cuz i have enabled rebug mode ?
Whatever that is, we are very happy and would like to thanks for Joonie and everyone in this thread, you are amazing.
Best regards

Now spoof or update your that badboy to make sure it doesn't happen again on accident. You can also use system update Debug from QA flag settings to block online accidental updates bud. Way to help Joonie as usual.
