PS2 Issue with PAL game on ESR

So I have a NTSC fat PS2, and every game that I've burned so far works with ESR, and all of those games are NTSC games. I ripped the ISO from Underworld: The Eternal War, which is a PAL game, and I patched the ISO and burned it to a disc. When I loaded it up in ESR, the game was all black and white and it looked like some shitty VCR tape and it would play kinda slowly. Sometimes the screen would go black and the game would stop working. How can I fix this issue and make the game work just fine?
 
I dont think esr does anything to make cross region games playable. i think gsm is what does that. i think you can still use the disc but run/setup gsm first.
 
I've seen videos of both PAL and NTSC-J working on ESR. Hell, one of the games I use with ESR is an English-patched NTSC-J game, and it works just fine. I forgot to mention that in the OP.
 
ESR and OPL supports all regions,
but does your TV supports PAL signal?

What cable did you use to connect PS2 with TV?

NTSC-U\C and NTSC-J uses the same NTSC (480i 60 Hz) signal. Just region is different.

PAL uses 576i 50 Hz, not every NTSC TV supports this V-mode (especially CRT).
Does your TV has got SCART input?
 
It seems the TV supports PAL (refresh rate and resolution) otherwise he would have see just a pattern of confused lines (like when you set a game in progressive scan using a SD cable, composite or scart).

If his tv has the SCART input, all can be solved for the best.

Otherwise an alternative is to patch games to NTSC with PAL2NTSC (for not having to launch GSM at every boot) or even better would be to play the game with OPL and use its integrated GSM.

I remember that I've tested this tool (PS2 PAL2NTSC with Yfix 1.08) long ago,
but I have few problems with it (some games will not launch after patching).
With PS2 VFIX 2005 I have more luck.
 
If your tv lack a scart input (just check on the back), best thing you can do (for avoiding discs wasting) is to use OPL. For Underworld you should be good playing from USB too (aside the intro, the game has not FMVs, right?).

I see. I still have a FFX backup with the added PAL/NTSC selector, it perfectly works, but sure it depends on games.

I checked and I have PS2 VFIX 2005 on my PC currently. Don't remember if I ever used it though, it's been a long time.
