PS3 kinda in a pickle

I been a long time SOCOM fan, of course they killed the series off. My friend hooked me up with a PS3 that was setup with boot Evilnat. So we all could play that game once more. I have been busy with work the last year and just now getting to where I have a moment to play it some. I am seeing that now there is an update from the console and I know enough not to update from Sony. Is there a way to figure out how to update and not loose all the items that are already loaded on my console? Sorry I may sound like a noob here just wondering if anyone whats to help?

If your console is CFW compatible & currently has a CFW 4.xx installed, all you need to do is update the CFW to Evilnat Cobra 4.88.2 from USB storage, you won't lose installed games, dlcs or apps, the only thing that might be affected by an update is potentially some XMB customisations.

Use a small USB stick, MBR (not GPT) partitioning with only one fat32 partition on it. Like for an official firmware, the PUP file should be copied on the fat32 partition, its path should be in upper case:
PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP
