PS3 Lost my genuine DS3 cord after 15 years

Just as the title states, I have lost the original charging cable for my Dualshock 3 controller that came in the box with either my superslim 4001C or my phat K01...

Which is vexing me at this point because I would think that if I had 2 consoles that originally were bought and unboxed by me, that I would have 2 DS3 charging cables but perhaps I've misplaced both or a charging cable was not supplied with my superslim but it's too far in time to tell anymore.

My ultimate frustration with this is that the original S#NY DS3 charging cable seems to be one of the only, if not that, possibly the only USBmini cable that performs the correct handshake between the PS3 and an authentic wireless DS3.

(Meaning) Every variant of USBmini cable that fits my PS3 is being listed as unknown device on my PS3... unless I can find my authentic DS3 cable which just becomes more stagnant in my mind, remembering that distinct "barrel" that is on the cord about 2 inches from the end that plugs into the console.

It is very distinct amongst many of cords

Though I finally managed to lose it...

I've been playing Fallout 3 (nostalgia) with DS4

But L2+R2 don't work, so I had to re-map VATS ability from R2 onto R3 stick, which also made me have to re-map the grab function to the Share button... and lastly, I abandon usage of switching camera angles which is tied to L2.

Just wondering if there's any way to fully pair a DS4 to a PS3 without needing another "already-paired" DS3 to be involved for menu navigation?

I've been looking for the same answer as I bought a DS4 the other day but most of the Metal Gear Solid HD collection games won't take the input of the DS4. PS3 home menu nav works fine, but once the game is loaded I'm out of luck and have to revert back to the (fake) DS3 controller.

I did find reWASD, a software that'll convert DS4 input to DS3 output, but it seems to require one of two special Arduino-type adapters and it doesn't support a Bluetooth connection from the PC to the PS3. I'm still digging and will let you know what I find; I really don't feel like trying that adapter project... Keeping this post bookmarked, too.

Thanks for posting :) Yes, everything works fine for me playing FO3 it's just getting on my nerves that S#NY was never able or caring enough to make L2+R2 work on a DS4 just like it does on a DS3.

In different context, maybe the 2 different generations of dualshock are sending different commands from their peripherals when the buttons I speak of are pressed? Otherwise, I am not fully understanding why the left-and-right back triggers of a DS4 can't just work on a PS3 plain and simple unless they were assigned to commit a differently named command via the controller's internal hardware?

Example: Like when you are mapping a joypad for PC, you will have button_01 up to button_16 I think

Other than that, there is just 1 more issue (not too bad) where using DS4 to navigate the XMB and start the game works fine but once I have started playing, the only way to end my gameplay is to shut the console off with power button because the PS button on the middle of the controller does not work for DS4 (i.e. no way to open XMB or controller menu in-game)

I have already ordered a DS3 charging cable (easy way out)

But it would be great to have a answer for OFW users that just want their dualshocks to work 100% There was a controller pairing app for PC that I used (like 10 years ago) and I think it was DS3TOOL, only problem is that I am forgetting whether or not that tool had a feature which could make DS4 behave like DS3, whereas if committing your DS4 to a PS3, you would need your DS4 charge cable around if you wanted to re-pair that DS4 back to your PS4 later.

The biggest lesson is; if you have a miniUSB cable that has this particular "barrel" on it, then that is your Dualshock 3 charging cable and I hope that whoever reads this does not make the same mistake of misplacing it and losing it amongst the hundreds of different charging cables that they have like me. I may have ended up slicing my DS3 cable with a razorblade when I was cutting some zip-ties off of some cords I intended to use (though I don't remember storing that cord away, I always kept it around.)

No more zip-ties though. From here on I only use rubber bands for my cords.

From what I read, S#ny had to update the PS3 operating system to accept DS4 bluetooth connection. So my question there is why they didn't take it a step further and add a plugin or something to give us that compatibility and translate DS4 commands into DS3?

Now that you've ordered the new cable, you'll find the other one once it arrives ;p

Just a follow-up, the cord I ordered on eBay turned out to not be an official DS3 charging cord, so I was wondering if anyone could help me identify what this USBmini is supposed to go with?

USBmini (not working with PS3).jpg

It says SONY on the backside of the USB-A jack but it doesn't charge my DS3's and again, that is not the barrel which comes on authentic DS3 cables that I am familiar with... It's just bulls*** because they were listing it with a photo of the authentic cable.

There needs to be a simple adapter to make any style of USBmini work with PS3 :chargrined:

Also, I've already tested the ports on my superslim and they both read other devices... So, either this cable is not intended for PS3, or having my superslim on HEN in the past has broken the handshake that is commited between the PS3 & DS3 through a USBmini.

...If that is even possible? (or already been under suspicion?)
