PS3 ManaGunZ v1.38 - 4.86 CFW (CEX) / HEN Support + Picture Viewer + several fixes from developer Zar

Following the previous update of ManaGunz, homebrew developer and creator @Zar of the project has updated the popular ps3 homebrew to version 1.38, this update provides full 4.86 support (CFW CEX + HEN). Also in this update an added feature for viewing pictures (PictureViewer) in various formats that include DDS / GTF / BMP / WEBP / TIFF / GIM / TGA and other's as well. This update also provides several fixes; now in the file manager within ManaGunZ the scroll bar is now visible, also a fix to a language bug has been provided. See all the changes in this latest update in a popular AIO homebrew manager. multiMAN and IRISMAN are great choices as well for the PS3 but ManaGunZ is a popular choice as well. All 3 apps give a very diiferent approach and unique experience and also exclusive features.

Developer @Zar still have plans for the project and some features in development did not make the cut in this version but could seen possiably in a future update as the developer states with this release here in the psx-place forums that " The features I was working on, like dump BR, are disabled because I didn't finish yet.". So that is something that hopefully we see from this hobbyist developer when time allows. Until then checkout what the developer has brought us in v1.38 below in the included changelog

AFAIK ISO is working on FAT32, it splits in 4GB parts. It's working very well on my external HDD.
But I use a CFW and have no experience with HEN systems.

xXTakarashiXx you are the second person in this thread reporting that same problem, the first one was
Tested on Hen firmware ps3 super slim 4.86 , it shows the games but when selecting any games , it doesn't show any game icon in XMB
And it could be caused by this removal (an entry deleted in dev_flash/vsh/resource/explore/xmbcategory_game.xml)
hen no longer has app_home.

I dont really know... but the fact is managunz uses many different "mount" modes (that depends of the game settings you choose), and some of them mounts the game in APP_HOME... but this applyes only to PS3 games in PS3 JB format

This is why i suggested you to try with PS3 ISO format. The PS3 games in ISO format doesnt requires any settings, is just a "click and play"

tried a JB (BD mirror on) with a disc in the drive, mounted and played ok.installed new managunz over1.37,didn't
remove it first.also on current HEN+HFW(superslim) no other file managers installed.

In that mode (PS3 JB + BDmirror)... instead of inserting a real disc you can enable also the other option named "patch explore_plugin.sprx" ---> "mount in APP_HOME"
This way you can run the game "discless" (no need to insert a real dics) :)
But yeah... i guess this cant be made in HEN because they removed APP_HOME :(

Edit:
Btw, the patch to explore_plugin.sprx is volatile (not permanent, when you reboot the PS3 the firmware loads the original explore_plugin.sprx again)
And as far i remember, what the patch does is to remap the device names app_home ---to---> dev_bdvd

So... basically... is mounting the game into APP_HOME, but the firmware thinks is the real Bluray drive

yeah, haven't seen APP_HOME on the XMB since many HEN's ago.i thought the option was in ManaGunZ for cfw users and HEN users could only use JBs with a disc in the drive (which i dont consider a massive hardship either).anyway.ISOs are where its at.

Nobody tryed to restore the APP_HOME entry in dev_flash/vsh/resource/explore/xmb/category_game.xml ?

Im curious to see if this the the root of the problem, as far i did read there is no confirmation yet

how can someone restore the app_home? btw... even on latest hen, before updating to ManaGunZ 1.38 I've used 1.35 & I used to mount the games without using any real disk, & worked without a problem...

hmm hen, use cobra and with cobra even if you don't have a real disk inside your system it will display a disk on xmb, that's why joonie choose to remove app_home.

About your issue, did you try with another manager ?

Can you go to game setting and tell me how it's mounted.

multiMAN_04.85.01_BASE_(20191010) will mount without disc, all the categories unchecked,it set permissions before exiting and returning to xmb

So, it's working with multiMAN and not with ManGunZ. So, the issue defintly come from ManaGunZ.

I was talking about ManaGunZ's game settings, I think I understand what's happening. On version, 1.35 HEN wasn't detected (because it didn't exist). The game settings allowed some option unavailable in HEN because it's not perfectly working. On v1.38, these options are disabled, it's probably why it's not working anymore...

To fix it, delete ManaGunZ from xmb and reinstall the v1.38.

i deleted, rebooted(just to be sure)and reinstalled 1.38.i still cant do a JB discless mount, but trying this seems to prevent multiman from mounting a discless JB afterwards until reboot.another curious effect was that i was unable to mount a PSP ISO after trying the JB mount with 1.38,also fixed with a reboot.PS3 ISOs were all fine throughout.tried ManaGunZ mount with "mount APP_HOME" both off and on.im an ISO kinda guy normally so im learning here.

There is a detail a bit confusing about the different managunz mount modes, im going to explain how it looks in CFW, not sure what happens in HEN

You know the XMB uses a light blue disc icon to represent the disc, right ?
Icon_media_ps3_bd.png

This icon can be seen only when the mounted game is "out of focus" (in other words, you have the cursor located in a different icon)
And when you move the cursor over the light-blue disc is replaced by the real ICON0.PNG of the game, right ? (so you dont see the light-blue icon)

---------------------
Well... the confusing thing is XMB have 2 of this light-blue icons (are different), and the only way to identify them visually is when you move the cursor "out of focus", there are 2 differences:
-The text next to it
-The icon position

In one of them you are going to see the text at the right of the icon says "PlayStation®3", and the icon is located on top of "package manager" (this one is mounting it in APP_HOME)

The other doesnt display any text (instead of "PlayStation®3" it doesnt displays any text), and the icon is located at bottom of "package manager"

---------------------
In CFW there is a combination of settings where you can see both icons (is like if the game was mounted twice)

thanks for the info,i hadn't noticed any of that before.i wanted to see what happens with HEN,JB's with and without disc and ISOs all below package manager with no text when "out of focus".i can't try APP_HOME,doesnt seem to be an option for it in multiman.

I don't recall multiman having that app_home option, still I can mount the games "just fine" on multiman, but some of them I can only mount using ManaGunZ, in some games Multiman just does Blackscreen, & even before coming here for "the first time" I uninstalled, rebooted, installed again ManaGunZ 1.38 then rebooted, & nothing, so I guess imma just go back to 1.35 for now

I guess this is the only behaviour posible, since APP_HOME was removed in latest HEN the only place where could appear the XMB default light-blue disc icon is under package manager, and without text at his right

It would be interesting to see what happens in the actual managunz v1.38 with an old HEN with the APP_HOME (or a modern HEN version with the APP_HOME restored), but im not going to ask you to try it because is a bit hassle and it seems we dont need it, because managunz v1.35 mounts the games fine in latest HEN without APP_HOME (with the light-blue icon located under pagacke manager)
So.. it seems APP_HOME is not really needed for backup managers in HEN

Also, it seems this is one of the cases where the "fix" is going to be relativelly easy to find because the problem started to happen when some features was disabled in managunz v1.36
So... theoretically... the solution is to re-enable some of the features that was disabled in managunz v1.36
Dont get me wrong, im not saying that is easy to rebuild it, i dont really know, it could be tricky and could cause "colateral problems" in other mount modes because is needed to reorganize the code a bit

But im confident is not going to take much tries to @Zar to find the problem, probably at second or third attempt he will succeed :)
What could take more time is that im not so sure if @Zar have a PS3 with HEN, and how much he is used to HEN procedures
But you could help with this to short the times, im thinking @Zar could open a private conversation with you two to report your results with a couple of managunz "private beta" versions
Is not going to take you much time to betatest them, and the most you are risking is a black screen or a firmware crash (the kind of things that happens frequently, even to CFW users)

sure thing, i wouldn't mind testing at all, but maybe i'll take time for me to reply due that i'm still working even on this quarantine, but i'll test asap if needed

same here,i would be more than happy to test for HEN for this and anything in the future.i have many a black screen while testing psp configs so no problem there.
