I have a PS2 SCPH 5002 with Matrix Infinity version 1.54 installed. I press triangle and circle at the same time then matrix infinity menu shows up. Then after I press "Start" button it just hang/freeze. I try to press power button on the console but it just shows a black screen. I need to hold the power button to put it in stand by and press it again to have my PS2 work to the it was.

Would anyone knows what seems to be the problem saving matrix infinity configuration freezing up after pressing start?

Try saving as follows:
Hold down select and without releasing press start while holding down the latter as well.

Gotcha! will try this one. I disassembled my ps2 to check what mod chip is inside and I seem to have a Modbo 3.0 (To add additional info about my setup)

Since you opened the case, did you check that there are no "loose" cables?
If everything is fine, an alternative solution would be to install FreeMCboot and then deactivate the chip. I think your console is compatible with FMCB, you could try it.

EDIT:
Although it is also worth asking what changes do you want to make to the modchip?

Sorry for the late reply, just got back from a holiday,

Yeah, I think that would be the next action that I would do, My plans on the modchip is to put OPL in my HDD and have an HDLoader. My modchip will be set to DEV2 all the time.

In that case, the best thing for you is to install FreeHDBoot (FHDB) since you are referring to an internal hard drive.
