PS2 Modchip longevity

How long do modchip last before they fail?
I have a ps2 with a modchip installed, and I was wondering if the modchip could die 1 day out of nowhere and make the ps2 stop working
I have been wanting to get a non chipped ps2, but all I have seen lately had hardware problems

Sometimes what "kills" the modchip are the solder points. Out of nowhere mine stopped working, I checked the modchip and one of them were broke, so I had to solder it again and it started to working again.

I have the DMS4 Pro chip i had installed in 2005 from a modder based in CA, and still works to this day with no issues.
