PS3 Movian M7 (by deank) - "libav" swapped for "ffmpeg" & slight name change

Developer @deank who has been continuing development of the (modded version) of the original media center that started on the PS3 (now runs on Android, Amazon Fire Stick, MacOS ,Windown ,Linux & Raspberry pi). The media center originally was named "Showtime" on the PS3 but later renamed to "Movian" by the original developer Andreas Oman years ago.

Since that time, we have not seen the official project do much in recent years (currently home site is down as of writing), but developer deank has been keeping the project alive and evolving (see changelogs over at brewology for all archived changes). One of the biggest changes you will see within Movian-M7 compared to older version, is the change from the older (abandoned) "libav" video decoders/parsers to the current "ffmpeg" that was just replaced in the recent M7 update . This should improve compatibility and make for a more up-to date and versatile media player for all supported platforms including the PS3.

Also, deank has made a quick stop in the forum's, then to see a reported issue and provided a fix (seen here) that is now present in v7.0.2

I've used Movian for PS3 for years at this point; first the official releases then deank's fork once it ceased development. Updated it quite regularly too and played around with the plugins and enjoyed trying different things with it.

I'm really glad to see it's gotten a resurgence and is continuing development with a whole new version. Have just downloaded 7.0.9 and will install and try it out in a little while. Great work @deank :)

Any chance to have a DVD (or even bluray) playback through RGB output cable?

Movian plays very well its purpose when playing files, with a RGB cable on CRT it is awesome !

Nevertheless, the builtin multimedia player of the ps3 does not let you play DVD/bluray with a RGB output neither Movian is capable of it.

Yeah I can't seem to get the subtitles to work either. They show up in the list but as soon as you select any of them they don't work? If someone could explain how to get them to work on Android and PS3 that would be most appreciated! Also @disyoko what do you mean by "Subtitles work, but you have to get into opensubtitles add-on and introduce your account and password"? Please explain because I've never had to do that before on my Android or my PS3.

Edit: Subtitles seem to work w/ TGX plugin but not with YTS.

Grid Options for links with m3u extensions in lists could work the same as video extensions: mp4, mkv. With the real resolution of the image placed in the list, it does not force it to a standard rectangle.

Did you ever find a working updated youtube plugin?

Did you ever find a working updated youtube plugin?
I didn't look for one or at least didn't test it out much. I was more interested in the Twitch plugin since the Twitch PS3 app no longer functions whereas the YouTube app still works fine for PS3.

Hey everyone! Could someone please help me get the Opensubtitles plugin to work with YTS on M7 please!? They show up in the list but as soon as you select any of them they don't seem to work! I've been asking since a few days ago and no one seems to want to help me or tell me how. I never had problems with Movian and YTS on my PS3 and Samsung Galaxy a13s Android cell phone until it got updated to M7. Please and thank you in advance.

@deank I also can't get the subtitles to work on the YTS plugin. I've already put my username and password info on the Opensubtitles plugin, and the subtitles list comes up when i open any movie through YTS, but even if I select them, they don't show up on screen. I'm using Ps3Hen with HFW 4.90. The MovianM7 app is updated to the latest version 7.0.17.

Same here!
On previous Movian I could watch a movie with a subtitle in PS3.
Now it doesn't work anymore. No matter what movie I load. I can select the subtitle but it's not displayed over the movie.
Also, some search plugins are bugged, sometimes when I type the word and enter to search, it gives black screen and goes back to the XMB.
If there was a way to report this to @deank .

True, and speaking of Movian what happened to all of the plugins? the majority of them barely work anymore and it seems the developer stopped all progress on it for a very long time... (unless you know some super secret website where they update everything still but doesn't tell anyone about it)

Does Movian have a netflix plugin?

The same here.

I hope deank can fix this issue

Could the source be made available? It's GPL code, so it should be a given...

I'd like to look into optimizing the decoding of lossless FFV1 SD content, it's not decoding fast enough for real-time playback on the PPU as of now. With some Altivec magic and updated toolchain it may be a thing.

The problem with the OpenSubtitle plugin is not because of Movian new version but because of their API (OpenSubtitle's) changed. I noticed there is a new beta plugin in Movian list, but it does not work for me. It works foy anyone here?

Something wrong here.
migrated from opensubtitles org to opensubtitles com , but Movian7 still not working.

What is API consumers ?
