PS3 Multiple issues on CFW 4.82 Rebug and 2 questions (help please)

I know this is like a 99% "no", but can I take out the HDD of my non-usable "rebug 4.82 CFW model 2501A ps3 Slim" and swap it with my currently working "4.84.2 HFW model 3001B ps3 Slim" and be able to switch between them for their contents? Or am I dreaming a little too hard?

Dreaming slightly! Haha.. Though, it may be possible to attach the HDD as external and transfer your saves/progress (you'd need to ask for help transferring Trophies etc) you could always back up vital stuff to a USB drive...if you ever get it to boot..crap.. Hmm.. Shame there's no way for me to get physical access to it, otherwise i could help far more easily :(

And good idea with the whole Gaming PC.. They are a bit more useful. Yes they can cost a lot if you go OTT, but my last gaming rig besides like, two little upgrades, lasted me a good 7-8 years before it felt like time for a new setup.. I skipped pretty much all the i7 CPUs from 2nd gen and went all the way to 8th.. Plus i just loved the Coffee Lake codename xD coffee! <3 haha. You don't have to go as OTT as i did, though i'd recommend spending as much as you can and avoid AMD unless you want to heat up your room a little and have higher energy bills, though they do still give a cheap bang for the buck, Intel stuff is generally more reliable and efficient.. Not -always- the case but usually. My old machine case in point, kept up with mid-end newer gen i5 machines at the core!

But coming back to your PS3, i'm fairly sure it's been stated that each HDD is semi 'locked' to each machine once formatted, so even if the HDD worked in your other system you'd lose access to some things unless you edit a certain file, except if you've never been on PSN and it's all 0s.. Again, you'll have to ask the others about that, i don't want to end up helping destroy any vital data that remains. Did you see what error you got on boot without a HDD, btw? Also, i need to read the first part again but have you actually got the PS3 to do the whole filesystem check, much like an early PC used to?

And thanks for what? Nothing is working yet! xD Besides, you can find HDDs cheap now.. 500GB drive for like, £10 on eBay, maybe 15 bucks? So, if the console is working, upgrading the drive could be one way to at least have some good come out of this lol

two problems with that: they're on different firmware, and they're encrypted with a different erk, so it won't work.

Figured as much, just managed to JBreak that Phat PS3 i repaired.. I'd imagine it'd be much the same as now swapping HDDs between my Slim (which is on err V4.40 or 50 and Cobra 7.10 i think) and now 4.82 Phat xD did i read somewhere though it's possible to edit that erk or am i thinking of the trophy transfer thing? xD forgive my derps, it's nearly 5am and i've had a couple of beers.. At least i didn't brick the Phat though! And it actually runs cooler than my Slim.. Hmm.. (Tangent: Slim with 90nm CPU and 65nm RSX GPU exists..? lol)

I believe if you were to change the erk, you'd be forced to format the drive. I'm not sure about trophies. what you could do is a direct connection via ethernet between the two systems. I'm not sure how much is retained, but it will leave the original system empty. that process is on sony's page.

ps3 doesn't need hdd in pristine condition to work properly,i'm currently using for quite some time really junky one without any issues.it depends on what the exact issue with the drive is,if it's stable and if drive mechanics are working without issues.couple of slower or dead sectors here and there won't cause an issue especially if you don't copy things to it that frequently, and basically (like me) are using it more like read drive.

just try taking the hdd out and turning on the system. it will show an error. that way you'll know there's still life with the system.
It reads "cannot start the appropriate system storage was not found" as you said with the error. I guess it's actually alive there! This console was working just barely to run backups nicely, but with the exception of freezes when trying to interact with messages and online friends.
And so I tried updating from 4.82 Rebug to 4.84.2 Rebug, but when I did, this all happened. It doesn't turns on anymore. I didn't even unplug or mess with anything before this black screen problem showed up... Right now, I just checked the HDD slot, and it was full of dust... I just blew into the entrance of the PS3 myself where the HDD goes, and pushed the HDD back in slowly all the way to the back. Made sure it was connected on the proper side. Still, black screen when I turn it on. Only one beep and thats all I get now. Difference here is that without the HDD, it shows the error , and with the HDD inside, it doesn't do anything. There's a little orange LED light that starts blinking when I turn it on each time with HDD inside, but then it stops after 3-5 seconds after that. It stays black screen forever from here.

Is there anything I can do right now without a PC to verify the health of the HDD? Can I just swap it for another one for ps3 and hope it works? I can buy one if its $10-20 (US Dollar), but I don't have access to a computer that can read my current HDD right now to check anything. If I do get a brand new HDD, will the CFW ps3 be working again? Thank you all for your help! It means a lot! You guys are the best!!! Can't thank you enough for being here!

I'm now concerned to know if I can just reset all of this, start from scratch just to save the console. From what I read from all of you, I can only check if I can get it back to its previous state if I have a computer that can read the HDD and check for the bad sectors, etc. I was hoping there were more options to this, not complaining! Just thought there were more options

Your PS3 is ok. There is something bad with your HDD (corrupted data or/and bad sectors). Trust me, there is no way to check it for sure without a PC. You can try to enter to recovery and install latest rebug again.
Don't you know anybody who could put this HDD on a PC and check? It's really easy.

Okay I'll trust you, and btw, I can't access recovery mode ???? Here, I said this yesterday:
Okay... I can't start up Recovery mode on my CFW ps3. It's always a black screen. I connected my HFW through HDMI to make sure its not the cable. I held down the power button the first time until it completely turns off. Then, I held down the power button after it shut down and wait for the 3rd beep (4th because the third is 2 beeps in 1) and release. It's not showing the recovery menu as it did before any of this happened. So, I have to follow the "take out your HDD" option, right? Or what can I do here instead if possible?

Yes, you can buy a new HDD and install CFW from recovery again.

Ummm... My ps3 doesn't show the Recovery menu:

I do, but It will take some time before I can do it because they live far away, but' I'll go visit them one day and ask them if I can use their computer to fix this HDD. Could you please link me a guide/video tutorial on how to fix it the right way?

No, you didn't. To enter to recovery, you have to hold down the power button until it turn off, then hold it again and release it on second beep. You said about three/four beeps but you have to release it on 2nd.

Did it work?
Just tried, and no.
Exactly what I did:
Have the console unplugged. Plugged it in.
Held down the power button. It turned on, beeped until it turned off.
Held down the power button again, first, the initial Beep, when you press it the first time. Waited a few seconds, heard the second beep (Which you would call the first beep) and then waited about 1-2 seconds and heard the 3rd beep which was a double beep (for you, the 2nd beep) and released it. Nothing happened for 5 minutes, so I turned off the console by holding down the power button.

Second try:
Have the console unplugged. Plugged it in.
Held down the power button. It turned on, beeped until it turned off.
Held down the power button again, first, the initial beep, when you press it the first time, waited a few seconds, heard the second beep and released the button, still, nothing.
Is something wrong here?

Extra info:
When holding the button after the double beep, it just turns off.
EDIT: I had both of my USB slots used with an USB controller and an USB flash drive. Going to remove both and try again!
I just tried going into recovery mode with the USB slots empty, still, nothing happens.
