Need help connecting to PS3 via FTP on FileZilla

Need help trouble shooting my connection. My PS3 is running the latest version of EVILNAT with Cobra and I have WebMan, MultiMan, PS2CONFIG all installed, not sure if it's overkill lol. I've been driving myself crazy the past several days trying to scour forums for answers but none have worked for me so far. The error I keep getting on FileZilla is the following:

Status: Connecting to (hidden)...
Status: Connection attempt failed with "ETIMEDOUT - Connection attempt timed out".
Error: Could not connect to server

I know that somehow my connection is not working properly because when I try to ping my PS3 IP address from my mac it is unsuccessful. I am connected wirelessly and don't have access to an ethernet connection. If anyone would help me troubleshoot I would be eternally grateful, I've lost hours of sleep already lol.

Thanks!

Are you able to use the internet from your PS3, by e.g. setting the time or using the web browser? Since you have webMAN MOD installed, have you tried typing in your PS3's IP address into e.g. Safari and/or another browser on your phone and if so, what happens?

Thanks for the response! The internet is working on the web browser on the PS3. I've just typed the PS3 IP into my mobile device and it shows the wMan MOD menu. However, when I try to enter it on Chrome on desktop, it seems to load endlessly.

You're welcome :) Well then the PS3 seems to be working on your WLAN as I imagine your mobile device is also connected through the same Wi-Fi connection? Could there be anything on the desktop (the Mac?) preventing you from connecting to another network device on your local network? If it's the same machine you mentioned earlier, since both Chrome and FileZilla have OS X versions, then this seems like it could be the case.

To confirm, if possible try your PS3's IP on any other internet capable devices you may have access to. Pinging from your Mac fails, FileZilla and Chrome both fail to connect - it seems like the desktop is the culprit.

You bring up some great points. After trying some more, it does seem my desktop is the culprit. I'm unsure how to resolve this and get it to connect to my PS3's IP however. I've tried turning my firewall and antivirus softwares off and that isn't doing the trick. Any other ideas?

I'd be more than happy to help, but I have zero experience with Mac OS so I'm afraid I don't know what it could be that's preventing. Firewall would have been my guess before you said you tried disabling it, so it must be something else. Hopefully there are some members familiar with OS X who can weigh in here, else my best advice is to check an OS X forum and ask there.

Given it should be a general 'cannot connect to network device' query, the fact that it's a PS3 specific query isn't important as we have established that you can indeed connect to your PS3 on the network via your mobile device. Again, if I was in any way familiar with OS X or anything Mac related I would try to help you myself. :(

Not a problem at all! You've already helped me plenty, much appreciated!

Not a problem, I only wish I could have helped more. Unfortunately I wouldn't know where to start with Mac stuff, so you're better off doing what I'd do and try and find out what might be causing you to connect to another network device or perhaps more specifically, an FTP server. I imagine it's an OS specific thing preventing the connection, so a Mac OS specific query might be the way to go. Hope you get it sorted, and please let us know as I'm interesting now myself lol

I will definitely update you once I have figured it out. Still no luck as it is now. All I wanted was to have the PS2 ISO's > 4 GB on my PS3, but it seems it's quite the task for my setup lol.

Ended up abandoning the FTP setup and instead was able to install the PS2 ISOs via NFTS flash drive into my PS3 through WebMan File browser. Had no idea it was possible but after a lot of tweaking it, the games greater than 4 GB seem to be working just like the others. Thank you for your help.

No problem. For my PS2 backups that's what I did; transferred via file manager from USB. Taking your ripped ISO files and transferring them via FTP on a wireless connection would be so slow it would be impractical, anyway. Glad you found a much better work-around for your purposes :)
