PS3 Need some help downgrading from 4.89

Good afternoon, just a quick question. From the old guides I've seen about flashing using an e3 flasher, are those technique's still valid with ofw 4.89? Are the tools still safe to use and do I have to install rogero 3.55 or can I use 4.89 evilnat right off the bat?
And yes before you ask, I have checked which version ps3 I have and it is possible. Min OFW is 2.55.

If you have an E3 you should use it to flash OFW 3.55, from which you can flash Evilnat directly. If it doesn't work for any reason then flash Rebug 4.84 first, then Evilnat. No need to flash a 3.55 CFW.
 
ok, so finally got around to trying to downgrade. system is set up on a bench right now, trying to install 3.55 ofw. The screen is stuck on checking please wait for about 30 min now and the cirlce icon is still spinning. I know I need to wait but just curious do I need to have my bd drive plugged in as well or not needed at this time?

yes! unplugged disc drive or wifi/bluetooth module can result in bootloop. (ps3 can not fully start this way.)
 
ok thanks, i'll give it a try with everything plugged in. Now just have to figure out why i'm getting corrupted file in recovery mode lol
