To counter some abuse we have detected. we have decided to restrict some forum access for new posting accounts for the time being
  • New Thread Creation & Post replies for New User's can only be done within the "The Starting Point (New User Forum)" once your account passes various flags. Your account will be automatically upgraded/by staff to a normal user.

All good standing threads/Post will be moved by staff to the appropriate section of the forum as needed.

Apologies for any inconveniences caused, the system will be tweaked as needed.

What exactly this means? I have not done anything, in fact i dont even know what is this all about? I just wanted to ask something today to the PSBBN thread and i could not...

Hey,

I'm having trouble creating my own post. I have just made an account and want to post a technical question about the ps2 hardware specifically relating to fuses on my board.

Unfortunately the post button isn't on any of those screenshots.

It says I don't have privileges. Do I have to post in a couple of threads?

NOTICE: Merged Thread Titled "Some kind of ban?" into this thread
Hi there.
I visited the forum this morning as always and I found a message at the top of the forums panel that indicates I have no privileges to post in any other forum except this one. (See attachment)

My account is so old and I've never had a problem. I didn't post anything controversial afaik. Even I didn't post anything for a while.
Could the staff tell me what's wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Hello there. I understand a bit the rule of the starting line but it´s a bit complicated because if i have a doubt or a problem, I can´t agree or ask for that with the other members at that moment.

Post Moved from "Some kind of ban?" that was merged into this thread

How did you managed to find this part of the forum but not read the sticky in that forum that answers your question? (edit: post now merged with that thread)

You have an account that is from 2016 but you also have a handful of post..

Thus the system is going to treat you as a new poster, that is one of various flags implemented into the new system

Once various flags are meant your account is upgraded. We will not discuss those flags or requirements as that defeats the purpose for ones abusing the system.

To everyone: it's easy. Just post your question on the forum section The Starting Point (New User Forum). When the user demonstrates trust, good behaviour, searching before posting, etc., the user will have normal privileges, as stated in the first post.

Follow the rules and everything will be OK ;).
Yeah but i already posted answered , i was able to post and now again i can not do anything. Im not here very often and this is just wasting time. How exactly should i ask in PSBBN english patch a question in New user forum? I dont get it..

You should just use your original account @Luisile , since this is a duplicate account you are posting from.
Hence the need for such a setup we have here.

.Now to legitimate user's just create a new thread asking the question you need here in this forum.

You can link the thread, Add same title with "RE: Thread Title" or any title. If its a legitimate post / account we will merge that with the main thread or related thread when your account has been upgraded/

I have an account from a few years ago, but I wanted to start fresh without all the drama associated with it. I can't delete it obviously. I only came back for a couple reasons. Being on disability, I wanted to feel needed without having a job, and on the same note, I wanted to help your site as best I could for accepting me, if that makes sense. Since I left a couple years ago, I've learned a lot about compiling mostly, which I wanted to share as best I could. That's about all that's changed.

Yes, doesn't look like a very welcoming place. :( Not sure how to even get more than handful of messages for a profile to not be restricted, when you can only type in a sandboxed evironment, where other users couldn't care less to visit and make discussions.

I can see how it could look as un-welcoming but its really not your only restricted in location as a new poster. You can still ask any question and have the ability to get the same response .

Most members of the site will use the Latest Post page or Latest Post blocks on the main forum page Typically most do not even know where or pay attention the post originates from, almost most are helpful no matter, . In some cases may even be easier for senior members and staff to see your thread/post which would get more attention in the long run.

So for us that do post in the forums often, rather then someone with 3 post since 2020 i think we will take step to ensure the less amount of annoyances for everyone. That is the goal to achieve at least. I think most understand where we are coming from on this.

My account seems to have been downgraded(?)

I was able to create this thread previously, but now I'm unable to reply to it: https://www.psx-place.com/threads/webman-mod-ps3iso-recommended-file-naming-convention.46006/

Is there any reason for this? Anything I can do to lift this restriction?

Cheers!

Did you not read the first post or other post by staff in the thread?
Just be a normal member and things will be upgraded automatically.

moved your post, so you can reply.

Some user's who previously had some permission did essentially get a temporary downgrade.
Those would be accounts with little to no history and/or have not satisfied the various parameters needed for an upgrade.

Ok thanks for clarifying, it seems that one of the levers is post count and I can only assume i've not hit the required post count.

This does feels a bit "guilty until proven innocent" which goes against the community aspect you'd expect within a forum, however, I understand the staffs need to handle this abuse. There are however downsides to the current methodolgy, mostly in that you hamstring new/quieter uses from being able to post answers to other non-new members questions that are not posted within the starter forum. It feels like it will be difficult for new users who here to enter with the intent of being a contributor as opposed to just asking questions. An example closely related to me, and my ps4-ps2 emu config testing, I can no longer post any results of that into that relevant thread, admittedly it has been a while since my last config post, but thats beside the point.

I do wonder if it would be less overhead to implement some auto-moderation, targeting known probelmatic IP ranges, malformed post bodys etc etc - such a method alleviates manual workloads as problematic posts/users can be deleted as required automatically versus having to manually approve all posts etc.

Regardless, I will stick to this forum if I do have any questions.

Cheers

Newcomers can use the search function on the forums. And then, if they don't find an answer to their question they can simply post it on the forum section The Starting Point (New User Forum).

Debate and exchange of ideas is always welcome.

Hey guys mainly staff people, I apologize for my behavior months ago. But that won't fix the damage that was done I'll have to either stay in newcomers for a while or I don't know I just feel like I did very wrong in controlling myself even personally.

moved your post, so you can reply.
I thought you were wanting to reply to that thread?

Seems to be a bit of fishing in this thread. Variables are always subject to change at anytime.

Let's keep in mind, posting in the forum is a privilege not a right,

Anyone can view and post.. I really do not see an issue or a lack of things you can do.
I'm sure this area will evolve a bit.

Typically its only an inconvenience to those ones abusing the system.

Been a member since 2021, and have been posting fine… not sure how THAT applies, but whatever, I'll be fine… still needing to know about the PSBBN patch question.
