>New Sony Patent May Point to PS3
Backwards Compatibility on PS5

Sony's new patent is titled "Backward Compatibility Testing of Software in a Mode That Attempts To Induce Skew."
It describes a system to test software compatibility in a "time testing mode".
Essentially, the system would create timing variations to test various conditions to detect errors with the code running on a non-native system.

Same old story: only a few selected PS3 games will be "ported" as PS3 Classics. Of course, this means Sony will resell your already purchased PS3 games.

I wonder how the PS5 could handle PS3 emulation, it should be able to with smooth framerates.

Fr I do as well it probably would prove that their devs are too lazy to make an actual emulator they'd do anything for a quick cash grab.

Probably project managers / bean counters, answering to corporate, answering to oblivious shareholders who just want guaranteed short(ish) term cash for their investments.

Coders don't decide what they code, and to a lesser extent, don't determine the quality.
It needs to be done by Monday, make it work, quick fast and hassle, we've got a buck to make.

This is the disease of corporate & publicly traded companies.
If you are smart, you maintain private control of the company by holding on to enough voting shares, then tell short sighted investors if they don't want to wait to strike it rich they can go pound sand.

This is why you don't play fair, because the corporations NEVER play fair, especially ones owned by shareholders...

Tbh...if Sony were to...I don't know engage in consumer friendly practices and actually give us what we want, then we wouldn't be in this mess. Their arrogance is what fuels that jailbreaking community in the first place.

Imagine if Ken Kutaragi was still at the helm, making decisions on the Playstation brand. Now that would have been amazing for the whole gaming community!.

yeah, Mark Cerny and his team are using freebsd, which has a heavily documented list of potential exploits. they also seem to make a lot of mistakes. compare the ps4 at least to the switch when it comes to software exploits. Sony has paid, last time I checked, over $600,000 for exploit disclosure across all systems on hackerone. that's a lot of screw ups. currently, playstation stars is down for some reason, and it has been down, according to sources, longer than psn was down in 2011. it's been over a month now, and it went down during the days of play sales, which is terrible.

I feel like if Ken Kutaragi was still the CEO of Sony that Sony would be FAR better off. I feel like Kim Kutaragi had a unique way of doing things, and had he been given more time in the spotlight, I feel like Sony would be more consumer friendly and also more innovative as well

Kutaragi was awesome. PS would be like Nintendo (minus all the anti-consumer BS they do) is today imo.
