PS3 New to PS3 jailbreaking but not the scene

I've jailbroken a number of consoles before and for some reason IMO, the PS3 scene seems to be the most confusing. There are just so many options! I picked up a PS3 Slim 2501 this weekend. I did the check on it and it can roll back to 3.40. So far I have upgraded the OFW to 4.8.4 but that's about it. All I want to do with this console are the following.

1) Play PS2/3 backups
2) Create PS3 backups using the PS3 drive

I have all the files to do the CFW install but I'm not really sure I need to do CFW or if HEN is good enough for my needs. I'd like to keep the menus as OFW looking as possible, like it is on the PSP. On the PSP, I have folders using the categories add-on for PS1, PSP games. Makes it nice and neat. Is this possible on the PS3?

I also don't really plan on taking this online once I'm on HFW/CFW. I have a PS4 on stock for that.

Just looking for some guidance and suggestions as to the best way to proceed. I also plan on upgrading the HDD tomorrow through some sort of Prime deal.

do not use video tut as a guide, just as general reference.always use written guide from the developers of exploit and stick to it very very very carefully and literally.

Videos are ok for reference but never the go to way. Videos get outdated or miss items. Use the guides here and reference to the video if in doubt. People have bricked their system due to steps missing. But I will say his guides seem to be the best out there but still missing steps.

Ok my console is now on Rebug and working fine. Just a few more questions.

  1. How can I create folders in the XMB? On my jailbroken PSP, I have folders setup to separate the systems with all the games inside the folders for that system.
  2. What's the best method for creating copies of my PS2 discs to play on the PS3 HDD. Seems there are a few.

Ok I figured those two questions out however, still running into issues. I put a few ISOs for PS2 games in the proper folders. I see the games in the Retro menu of multiman but when trying to launch any of them, they just dump me back to the XMB. What app am I missing?

It's supposed to go back to the XMB. From there you need to install PS2 Classics Launcher and the RAP file with PSN Patch. Then once that is done simply launch the app and the PS2 game will load and play.

from what I remember, mm will read isos when in mmcm (cobra) mode, and convert iso's to ps2 classics when in normal mode. you have to toggle the mode that it's in, 'cause I don't think it can read both together. I'm assuming you're in mmcm mode with hen. the mode can be toggled in mm's settings.

Ok I got it working. I was watching a YouTube video and didn't realize that I hadn't installed WebMAN. Once I installed that, the config database, and the PS2 Placeholder they're working now. One last question, and this is more of an aesthetic question. On my modded PSP, I have traditional folder setup named PSP and one for PS1. All I needed to do on that was drop the ISO in the folder and was good to go as far as playing. Is there a similar easier method for PS2 games to just put them in a folder and run them straight from the XMB? Or is this just a limitation of the PS3 emulation? I was trying to keep the menus and such as close to retail as possible.

you can create your own albums with the triangle button/information on the xmb. it has to be done manually though.
