When trying to play a PS2 game the console sometimes shuts down with several 1701 codes followed by a 1001. Is this Tokins or something else? Any help would be appreciated

By the dev wiki and the looks of your logs, yu may have some issues either with your CELL or something with the OS.

Are you on CFW?. If that so, which are you using?. Perhaps downgrading could be of help here.

Okay, so a downgrade first, and if that don't help then it may be an issue with the CELL processor itself, is that what your saying?

According to the wiki, yes, the CELL is related with your issue but it has a lot of related points to check. It's also known that CFW has issues with PS2 games.

Downgrading to CFW 4.84 should give you a clue if it is CFW related or not.

Does this happen with PS3 and PS1 games?.

Also, how are you running your PS2 games?, via discs or through PS2 Classics loader?.

So, to be clear, it's an A revision, and it won't load a PS2 disc. It just shuts down the console with the errors I mentioned. This happens with the actual disc, or if I create an ISO, the outcome is the same.

If i use PS2 clasics emulation, then the ISO runs fine. PS3 and PS1 games also work without any issues

Then there is something going on when the PS3 send the calls to the CELL in order to enter in PS2 mode. Error 1701 is related to Power On Reset.

Could the EE+GS unit be damaged?, maybe the bus that connects it to the CELL?.

Ummm, 1701 followed by 1001. Could it be tokins on the CPU side? Otherwise it's looking like a NoPS2 issue. I think Ace had this issue after he swapped out the chip that controls the power to the EEGS chip.

Error 1001 is improper shutdown on the CELL, but that could be a consequence of the issue that prompts error 1701. From the dev wiki:

In short, the tokins could be responsible but not 100% certain to be the root cause.

Maybe trying to stress your console with a demanding PS3 game could make the tokins to fail.
