This resource is obsolete.

The 1-TeraByte HDD limitation, which had plagued the PS2, has finally been resolved
(The best PS2 news youve heard in years has just arrived)

This will be invaluable when 1TB internal drives disappear from store shelves
Which is closer to becoming a reality than you might think.
Download available at the bottom of this page... Enjoy
I know we will all eventually need this ;) -Thank You SP193

SP193 has done it again! Bringing to you uLE-2TB

uLaunchElf 4.43a ( 2-TeraByte Edition ) file/partition/hdd manager...
(Allows proper/reliable formatting, and correct size/value reading/feedback)

- For 2TB Internal Hard Drives -

  • ===== Notes from the Beta Tester ( spiderman ) =====
All tests completed/accomplished with the following:

    • 1. This version of uLaunchElf ( uLE - 2TB )

    • 2. Genuine Official Sony Network Adaptor

    • 3. IDE-to-SATA Adapter...
(very quick and simple mod for PHAT/Fatty/Chubby PS2's only)
....... You can find it HERE .......

    • 4. 2TB Seagate 2.5" (laptop) SATA Internal Harddisk Drive...
(with the converter I am using, there is no room for a full size Internal HDD)

    • 5. USB-to-SATA-Converter...
(to connect the drive to PC for installing games, removing the drive from the ps2 each time)

    • 6. OPL 0.9.3 (with all the options = VMC, GSM, etc.)

    • 7. HdlDumpGUI v1.5...
(For installing games, it was the same as with ANY other hard drive)

    • 8. Free Memory Card Boot (FMCB) newest version available

      --------------------------------------------------------------------

    • I've used the uLE-2TB.elf (specifically uLE's HDDmanager/FileBrowser features)...
(mainly to Format the Hard Drive, Create Partitions, and Copy/Paste files)

    • Correct Values are now displayed in uLE = Total Size and Free Space look right

    • +OPL partition created successfully

    • ALL partitions created successfully

    • I now have more than 1 TB of games installed ( 484 games )

    • ALL Games work as they should in OPL

    • ALL Virtual Memory Cards (VMC) work as they should in OPL

    • Simple Media System (SMS) works as it should...
(However, the initial loading times seem to have increased)

    • HdlDumpGUI readings/feedback of TRUE User-Useable space...
      ( 1863GB Total / 1104.38GB Used / 758.63GB Available )

  • spiderman:

"The main problem was formatting the hard drive initially (before this version).
I tried WinHIIP and Free Hard Drive Boot (FHDB) with no success.
uLE didn't work, and gave incorrect values for the HDD size.
SP193 developed a uLE version that worked."

"This site has helped me tremendously, and I will gladly help anybody I can.
I was delighted to help out any way that I could, although really I deserve little of the credit, as it was SP193 that worked on the program, and I was merely a tester."

Unfortunately not too many people take the time to report unless there is a problem! It's a shame...

Still, the numbers alone speak for themselves... [emoji6]
It goes to show you that what you are doing isn't useless... Not by a long shot.

Hello, this uLE - 2TB is not working for me :(

I recently bought a SATA Barracuda Internal 2TB hard disk (1.91 TB in system) and bought a SATA to ps2 adapter (didnt convert IDE to SATA as not SATA to PS2 are available). However, the uLE-2TB does not detect that hard disk is connected.

First i thought my adapter is not working but then i connected my 250gb SSD sata drive and loaded uLE-2tb still shows as hard disk not connected. Then i run uLE 4.4.2d or whichever the version is in FMCB 1.93 using older MC, now this one shows my hard disk is connected but not formatted which means the adapter is working fine.

Now i tried my 2 tb hard disk with this older uLE, but it showed as not connected again. So i tricked the system, i connected 250gb ssd first and made it detect the hard disk and then swapped it with my 2TB hard disk and formatted it. It got formatted but based on the 250gb hard disk space which was detected and not 2TB.

Now, i tried to load this hard disk again with uLE-2TB as it was already formatted i was hoping it might show up, but still same issue as hard disk not detected.

Point to note is while loading HDD modules it gives slow beeps and probably HDD drivers/modules are the basic issue here.

Can someone please help and fix this, so that i can use the entire 2TB hard disk with my PS2.

Few things to note are i have the latest FMCB which is 1.953 and OPL 0.9.3 in my MC and Pen Drive. I also tested it against my old MC which has FMCB 1.93 which helped me somehow format it a bit.

Thanks in Advance,
Ash

This is very old and is actually a beta build of wLaunchELF. People should really stop using it. Just use the latest beta of wLaunchELF!

If it still does not work properly then, then your adaptor is just not compatible. To date, I have not known of a "compatible" adaptor that is really 100% compatible. The makers generally just made it work with the homebrew software (i.e. HDAdvance or OPL), without actually testing against everything (i.e. official software).

Hello sp193,

I have been out of the PS2 scene for quite a while now due to illness.
Since my return, I have gotten wrapped up in the whole PS3 explosion of goodness as of late, so I still have much PS2-related reading ahead of me.
Surely I have missed alot. :(

So far this resource has been edited as follows:

If you would like for me to add/replace/change/link-elsewhere/etc, please let me know (as I never have any problem listening to requests, or advice, of Devs).
You have always been there for me, and my inbox is still always open for you, as well any help I can ever offer. :)

Speaking of, I noticed some down links, and missing changelogs, in your "sister threads", while I was researching the current beta to add here.
If you have lost edit-abilities, I know how frustrating it can be (as it happened to me once too), so I never turn down a request to fix an OP (with changes or updates).
Luckily, sometimes I notice the need myself lol.

Keep up the fantastic work !
Thanks for making all of this possible at all !!!

Hello Ash,

This Resource was simply the first option, to ever allow 2TB drives to work in the PS2.
A beta/proof of concept/whatever you want to call it. ;)
Judging by the original thread I found it in, it seemed it was never intended to be anything other than that.
However, the work continued, and spawned the whole wLE project, so it was definitely more than just a simple POC afterall. :D

Please follow the Developers advice, and use the new links provided above, as they are far superior to the original resource.

My personal opinion, if you are using one of the chinese-knockoff network adaptors I have seen around the net (the compatibility is trash from what Ive heard), please do yourself a favor and ditch that for an official network adaptor (with the recommended ide-to-sata converter you already mentioned).
