PS3 Official Update v4.90 is Live! Official CFW/HFW Released!

YouTube recommended me some videos about 4.90

People sharing a lot of missinformation such as:

The firmware is bricking a lot of consoles.

and etc.. what's going on with those people? everything for likes and views? C'mon

By the way, regarding the firmware, many users caught a soft-brick when downloading the firmware (which was uploaded to sony servers in the early days) from md5: F8C0C15EBDA82E4347FBABF4A7CF53BC, now the servers have firmware with md5: 05fe32f5dc8c78acbcd84d36ee7fdc5b.

I understand correctly that you ported the vulnerability to 4.46?

What new did you find (in a nutshell)?

Uuh, have you got an approximate time when it got updated? This may be a problem for upcoming releases.

well the latest update contains Firmware_4.90\Part3\UPL.xml with the following information:
Code:
<Build>68372,20221214</Build>
That is build 22/12/14
You can ask those who have encountered a soft-brick to upload their firmware file to see the build version.

Judging by the complaints, the firmware was crooked in the first 2 days. But in general it would be nice to see the file modification date http://fjp01.ps3.update.playstation.net/update/ps3/list/jp/ps3-updatelist.txt or http://fus01.ps3.update.playstation.net/update/ps3/list/us/ps3-updatelist.txt
Based on its content, the update is dated 2023_02_28.

By the way, I got an interesting effect when assembling hfw if I replaced block 14 from 4.90 to 006 from 4.82, and block 22 from 4.90 to 14 from 4.90. Scripts are processed, but the firmware version cannot be determined :)

This website has a reupload of the 4.90 firmware from the day of release - 28th of February, and it's the right version. So I guess that it either never made it to all CDN servers, or got replaced so quickly that almost no one noticed? I remember that their website listed 4.89 up until 1st of March (at least for me), before either the cache expired or they finished distributing it.

It looks like you first got the OFW 4.90 SHOP edition (md5:F8C0C15EBDA82E4347FBABF4A7CF53BC):
http://deu01.ps3.update.playstation...f8c0c15ebda82e4347fbabf4a7cf53bc/PS3UPDAT.PUP
This wrong link is found in https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/hardware/ps3/system-software/ under "Reinstall PS3 console system software"

The correct OFW 4.90 RETAIL is this one (md5:05fe32f5dc8c78acbcd84d36ee7fdc5b)
http://dus01.ps3.update.playstation...05fe32f5dc8c78acbcd84d36ee7fdc5b/PS3UPDAT.PUP
The good link is available on https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/hardware/ps3/system-software/ under"Update using a computer"

Unfortunately at the moment of this post Sony still hasn't fixed this fatal mistake.

So you're saying everyone who updated through the console in the first hours has a Shop version of 4.90 ?
Nope. Just people that went to their web page and hit the "wrong" button got a different version of the firmware than expected. I don't think the PS3 would let you fully install that file, but it's possible that it somehow breaks the existing install, like it was mentioned by other confused users.

In any case, doing that won't hurt the hardware permanently in any way. Redownloading the right PUP and installing that one is all you need. :encouragement:

this is not new , for many years sony provided wrong files to download via internet.
i remember a lot of consoles with softbriks. Some cases easily reinstalling and others ...
i still have E3 and progskeet ready to use ...

The brazilian website is even worse, it is also providing the SEX firmware under "Reinstall PS3 console system software" but even the install instructions are wrong.

Its also says "Atualize sempre o seu sistema PS5 com a versão mais recente do software do sistema." in English "Always update your PS5 system to the latest version of the system software." since last year and they even translated the update folder name. (since 4.85 days)

  1. Usando um PC ou Mac, crie uma pasta chamada "PS3" em uma unidade USB formatada como FAT32.
Dentro dessa pasta, crie outra pasta chamada "ATUALIZAR".
  2. Baixe o arquivo de atualização e salve-o na pasta "ATUALIZAR" criada na etapa 1.
Salve o arquivo com o nome de arquivo "PS3UPDAT.PUP".

that means
  1. Using a PC or Mac, create a folder named "PS3" on a USB drive formatted as FAT32.
Inside that folder, create another folder named "ATUALIZAR".
  2. Download the update file, and save it in the "ATUALIZAR" folder you created in step 1.
Save the file with the file name "PS3UPDAT.PUP".

so ofc the ps3 will not read it lol, i have been reporting this issue to the Playstation twitter since 4.85 days and no response at all .

I think the thread is ready to be published, it just requires someone with mod permissions to move it. Another thread is ready too, but there were problems attaching a file to it.
yeah it won't be long now. STL had no internet last night. i don't know if we are waiting for hen or not, but everything that is ready will be released at the same time.

i will put the one thing on my github pages site, but i will try to post some self-hosting tips soon also.

So what happens if we don't get a hen update?

I didn't ignore your comment and I did this test I used HFW 4.87 as a base and it worked perfectly but when installing HEN it hangs on the home page, at least I saw that it worked, the webkit was replaced
