PS3 OFW 3.10 in 2022 - Is it worth keeping?

I'm on OFW 3.10. With ps3xploit currently where it's at, is it possible to get CFW on systems with OFW 3.55 or lower? Is it worth it to keep my OFW at 3.10?

I'm new to PS3 jailbreaking. I'm getting conflicting information to wait until BGToolset is back online or to just put in a USB with an update file and go from there. I believe the advice to wait for ps3xploit and BGToolset is for systems on 3.56 or higher. All the threads I'm finding regarding older OFW are years old and with the scene constantly changing I'm not sure if I can follow advice from even just a month ago after the ps3xploit situation, let alone years.

This thread says OFW <> CFW Installation is currently not possible, but again, with OFW 3.55 or lower, can I install CFW via USB using and update file and then do CFW <> CFW Installation to 4.89? I'm thinking something like this:

1) Update to OFW 3.55 using USB
2) Install CFW using USB
3) Follow steps here to update CFW to 4.89

You just need Step 1 and 2 ,,nothing in 3 applies to you. since on lower firmware (that thread you link to is for people on later non exploitable OFW).
As you will be able to Install a CFW directly from OFW on 3.55 .
(You may be able to install the CFW PUP from 3.10)
.
Just do not update above 3.55 with OFFICIAL FIRMWARE (CFW is okay)

So I may not even need to update OFW to 3.55? That would save a step!

Sounds like the first thing I should try is stay on 3.10 and install CFW EVILNAT 4.89 COBRA 8.3 [CEX] from this thread.

If that doesn't work, install the 3.55 OFW from the historical OFW spoiler from this thread and then install the CFW EVILNAT 4.89 COBRA 8.3 [CEX] in the above step.

And this can all be done offline with USB (once I download from PC).

Does that sound right?

There's nothing about 3.10 that makes it worth keeping, maybe except OtherOS (which I believe it still has, but why would anyone want to use that in 2022?) and of course the fact that it can be switched to CFW without the use of bgtoolset or any other hack. Just install it from USB just as you would install an OFW update.

At this point, and until bgtoolset comes back (if it ever does) the one thing you should avoid doing is installing OFW or HFW above 3.55, because then you will need the hack to switch to CFW or downgrade. If you are on CFW it doesn't matter what version you have because you can always downgrade it by setting the QA flag.
If you're actually playing games on the console I would seriously recommend switching it to CFW and using a recent CFW (Evilnat 4.89.2, or Rebug REX 4.84.2 if you need DEX mode) - By using an old 3.10 firmware you risk inserting a game that requires a later firmware version and if not careful you might end up updating the firmware from the game disc to a version >3.55 and getting stuck with it. AFAIK (someone correct me if I'm wrong) there have been no physical PS3 games that bundled an OFW with version >4.80 so if you install a recent CFW you avoid the risk.

Anyway, bottom line -
* Keeping it on 3.10 - No real need
* Switching to CFW - Any CFW version is OK. Once installed, downgrade is possible.
* Staying on OFW (or HFW) - Do not update to versions >3.55 at this point.
