PS2 [Open PS2 Loader] Requests, suggestions, ideas

Here are some suggestions I have:

-A way to change the VMC, GSM and compatibility modes on many games faster, either on PC or on the PS2.
It takes a very long time to set up one by one.
I can't imagine how long it takes for those people with a list of 1000 games!
For VMC settings, easy to understand game saves would be preferable so it's clear which game save it is
without looking up the SLUS code.
I try to use VMCs because I don't want to swap memory cards every time I save
(I have Free McBoot card in slot 1 and MX4SIO card in slot 2, there is no other way that I know of).
And apparently saving game saves to the Free McBoot memory card can become risky
and begin to overwrite (corrupt) FMCB files if you save too many game saves and probably without warning. :bitsbubba:

-Option to skip game intros like game developer logos. I don't know if it's possible
or maybe it can only be done by modifying PS1/PS2 game files,
but I'm curious about getting to the game menu faster. :cocksure:

-Someone talked about finding a game in a long game list.
Maybe they're right about the ability to search and/or find game name by first letter.
Another idea could be to have a favorites section for those games you play more frequently.

-Press X to show game info (e.g. screenshots) and then press X again to launch the game.
To me this feels better than press square for more info, and also less likely to launch the wrong game.
I don't know how popular the X version is compared to square but maybe it could be an optional setting.
I think this version (or theme or something?) existed before, I don't know what happened to it.

-Maybe I did something wrong but it takes almost 20 seconds to load into OPL from turning on the PS2
(and it loads the default theme before loading my custom theme). Is this normal?
I feel like an older version of OPL loaded faster. So I guess any loading optimization is appreciated.
Maybe it always took this long and I just forgot.

Any quality of life improvements that makes the experience easier, faster and better. :encouragement:
I too like the plasma effect on some OPL themes.

You can use VMC, GSM and other features per game or global, so I do not understand what else do you need?!

The only problem is with compatibility modes.
But for most of games (ISO) none is needed.
The problem may start with compressed (ZSO) because Mode 1 should fix most of the problems with loading games.

There something like Mode 4 = Skip Videos. o_O
It may not work for all games but it is worth a try.

There was also an option in GSM to skip videos but it has been removed not sure why and when.

This might come in handy if someone has tons of games.
Although for now you can press :but r1:, :but l1: to jump through the list of games.

Currently you can launch a game from a list by pressing :but x:.

If you need more info about it you can press :but square:, then more info will be shown.
From there you can press :but x: to launch it or :but cir: to go back.

It is a fair compromise between people who wants to play\launch their game as fast as possible vs. those who are launching a game for the 1st time.

Unfortunately loading time has been increased for more than a while especially if you use a 3rd part memory card.

Yeah.
Plasma theme\effect was cool.
Additionally you can revive it from here:
https://www.psx-place.com/threads/opl-theme-plasma.43252/.

How to do that? I have a recent daily build.
I set VMC to generic but it's not set globally, I have to set it for each game, one by one.
Also, even if I could set it globally, doesn't that increase the risk of corrupting every game save compared to each game having their own VMC file?

GSM in OPL never works correctly for me but I'll experiment with the skip videos setting, worth a try. Thanks.:D

On an official Sony and a third party FMCB card, the OPL loading time was about the same. o_O
Maybe it's because both had the same FMCB/OPL settings copied via WLaunchELF, or it's just normal.
But I'm glad there have been compatibility fixes. Maybe one day optimization will be the next step.:encouragement:
I really like the zso feature, saves space and sometimes better performance than iso.

I don't know if it's possible but is there a way to make the USB port support Wi-Fi? because there is an option on cell phones that is "USB tethering" and it would be good to play games like CoD 3 Online without having to connect it to the modem

(besides, on computers it already detects it as an ethernet cable)

That's TOTAL BULLSHIT!
IF one of them breaks, it has NOTHING to do with FMCB but that the card is TRASH!

Also... MemoryCard-Emulators exist and you can have everything in one device, working from one slot!

Favorites has been added a few months ago AFAIR.

Yeah no... We had that in the past and the implementation SUCKED and this change was VERY welcome to the far majority.

It got REPLACED by the BETTER implementation it has now.

Facts don't care about feelings either.

AFAIR, that part got moved/merged with Mode 4!
I have a recent daily build.
"Daily Builds" is NOT OPL but the OPL fork "OPL DB TA" and it is TRASH and old AF! Get a recent original OPL from the official GitHub or the PS2Wiki!

My bad.
I was trying to tell that if you create a VMC and called it e.g. 1,
you can use that 1 for all games,
although you have "edit" every game setting to add it.

Set it to globally may be a good or a bad idea.
Props:
- use global VMC setting for all games with just one option,
it may come in handy when you have a lot of games,
instead of applying it per game

Cons:
- Not every game supports VMC, some might corrupt it
when that does happen all your saves are gone
- some games might not boot with VMC

In other words OPL does not have 100% compatibility so all games should be set differently (not globally),
Some games might break with GSM, some with VMC...
But that's just my opinion.

On an official Sony and a third party FMCB card, the OPL loading time was about the same. o_O

From my tests OPL 2194 boots:
- in ~13.3 sec from a genuine $ony 8 MB memory card.
- in ~17.3 sec from a 3rd party 64 MB Max Memory memory card.

So I have different results.

Connecting anything to a very slow USB 1.1 might be pointless because of its bandwidth.
It will be even worst that playing a game from a USB stick.

I am not sure but someday I saw an ETH to Wi-Fi adapter.
Through ETH you will have significantly better sending and receiving speeds.

Favorites has been added a few months ago AFAIR.

Currently there is only a PR for that:
https://github.com/ps2homebrew/Open-PS2-Loader/pull/1366.

All I can suggest for now is the capability to actually rename PS1/PS2 games inside OPL itself, and not to rely on a third party program.

I can't recommend a volume boost for games since some cutscenes for games have incredibly low volume, but it's still a good desire nonetheless.
