PS2 [Open PS2 Loader] Theme Forge (discussion)

For my part i want to say that when i asked from the first moment for help to know the resolution of graphics
in SD and HD, it is not to change how things work now internally, but thinking of a future guide for the next
version, to add and update this information for theme creation in the guide for help the people.

Now i realize why i did not remember the spine and the logo as art for the themes.
It is because i never use the OPL Manager, and also because i rarely remember seeing themes using the
logo and none that have used the spine, they are not in the guide either, so they were not in my mind.

I remember the first arts that were made that didn't depend on the default theme were SCR1 and SCR2 for
the screenshots.
But those of the spine and logo i think they came from the people of the OPL Manager.

From what i have seen, the logo uses LGO and the spine uses LAB.
I guess this works like this in the official OPL too, but these patterns are not mandatory right?
For example if for spine instead of LAB I want to name it as SPN or SPI, can i define it like this in the
config file right?

About the sizes of logo and spine this could be right?

Spine SD = 18x240 4bit
Spine HD = 32 / 64x512 4Bit [8 / 16KiB]

Logo SD = 300x125 4Bit / 8Bit
Logo HD = 640x320 4Bit / 8Bit [256 / 512KiB]

And for the screenshots?

SCR1 / SCR2 SD = 256x188 8Bit
SCR1 / SCR2 HD = ?? 8Bit

And for the cover overlay (3D case)?

SD = 256x256 ?? 8Bit ??
HD = ??

No...
One picture "sliced" into multiple...
1 1920x1080-picture --> 6 640x540
...and then linked in the theme-config hence I wrote, that I only used this trick for the THEME'S "BG"!
I do not know this trick, 6 parts to form an image?
Maybe you have a theme and its files with this trick to see and understand it?
If not do not matters, i keep this info, thank you.

Best regards.

I thought I would start a separate thread to help keep the 'Theme and ART for OPL 0.9.X' thread clean.
Here we can:
  • Discuss theme ideas
  • Ask for help with creating themes
  • Request ART for OPL (e.g. HiRes covers etc.)
  • Talk about anything related to themes and ART
If anyone needs help with a theme or some ART I will do my best to help you.
Here is a pack of 1601 HiRes covers @Krah and I put together, already converted for convenience:
PS2 HiRes Covers 512x512.7z 172.79MB
Here is the same pack in their original dimensions in JPG format if anyone wants them:
PS2 HiRes Covers.7z 1,021.43MB
Download and install IrfanView
https://www.irfanview.com/
Go to File > Batch Conversion/Rename.
View attachment 13075
Set Look in: to your folder containing the ART.
Set Output to current ('look in') directory (for ease).
Set Output format to BMP
Add the ART you want to convert and go to Advanced.
View attachment 13076
Set the new size. In this example we are converting Screenshots. 256x256 is a good size for these.
Set the colour depth to 256 Colours (8 BPP)
Click OK then Start Batch.
View attachment 13077
Profit.

A theme idea I've had for a while is a OPL 10th Anniversary theme. I think it would be great for people who want to use any version of OPL that they want to while keeping the look of the 10th anniversary. I think that version has the best layout out of all the default OPL themes.

I have bigger disc art set up on a theme, but OPL Manager pulled only low res disc art. Is there a resource for hi res disc icons?

EDIT: As of OPL 1.2.0 2091 - this bug/oversite should be resolved and the App Info page should now load from the subfolders - eliminating the need for duplicates.

Thought I would share this with everyone, since it doesn't seem to be in a lot of themes consistently and isn't really documented anywhere that I can tell.
It appears that attribute images are not being populated from title.cfg or conf_apps.cfg on the APPS INFO page.
It would be beneficial to have all attributes available for APPS in the same way they are for PS2 listings, but that does not appear to be the case.

For example, you have to have the same image in both places:
  • PS2 Game Rating:
    • thm_theme/rating/0_Rating.png
  • APP Rating:
    • thm_theme/0_Rating.png
The issue is that OPL requires duplicates to display all the information for both apps and games. We need the apps page to retrieve its assets in the same manner as the games page, so that themes aren't filled with duplicate files, wasting space.
There is also no #Media or #Format option that will populate on the Apps page. For consistency, it would be nice if these were possible as well. Currently I am able to work around this by using default=ELF_#Format and default=APP_#Media (custom image) since it will not generate an image of its own there on the apps page.
[ISSUE]: APPS info assets load from theme root vs GAMES info assets loads from theme sub-directories. #Media and #Format absent from APPS. · Issue #1235 · ps2homebrew/Open-PS2-Loader (github.com)

Are you thinking about these covers?
Well the original autor has not been here since 2020...
Even the Wayback Machine does not have it...

He found time.

Would like to see them in 8bit PNG for OPL's performance.

On another note:
App Info Pages!!!
If people were unaware, there's two ways to do it.
APPS/NAME/title.cfg = first two lines must be title= and boot=, but after that its all Info page information if you add the lines for each attribute.
conf_apps.cfg uses the CFG folder, with the ELF name in the .cfg file.

Examples:

mass:/APPS/APP_WLE-ISR/WLE-ISR.ELF
mass:/APPS/APP_WLE/title.cfg
title=[APP] wLaunchELF_isr
boot=WLE-ISR.ELF
Title=wLaunchELF 4.43x_isr

Now that OPL (Beta 1.2.0 2113 and later) supports reading memory card applications (mc?:/*_*/title.cfg) I hope to see lots more use of the information page as well as the art folder :D
