OPL (Open PS2 Loader)

PS2 Open PS2 Loader v1.1.0

If that's the case (which I have never noticed), then it will show on any gameplay footage on YouTube. Just look at the videos uploaded there to see if it's happening on real CDVD and shows a vid if yes.

Not a bad idea. So far I couldn't find a really decent video (everyone skip the main menu with lightning speed).

On this one everything seems perfect (but it's difficult to judge with in little time…):

Here seems a little crackling can be heard instead:

Here something can be hear (with the earphones… is less than what I hear on my tv):

Here is all clearly perfect:

I checked a PCSX2 video too and is perfect.

I don't know… Maybe it's Ps2 related?? Mine is a 39004. I'll check the game with ESR using the 75004 to see if there's any difference.

Checked all the vids. In all of them, the game's audio is perfect. That's also my experience - the game played perfectly in the past and it doesn't have any performance issues from the retail disc.

The only thing about some of the videos is that there's crosstalk in the AV cables used. Poor quality cables produce a whine-like sound and/or buzzing due to the video signal interfering with the audio signal. However, this has nothing to do with the game itself.

RRV is a legendary PS2 title. If it had any audio issues, it would have been a well-known fact, especially since the game's music is legendary on its own. I'm shocked such an important game seems to have been broken and people here didn't care.

.

Exactly it's a crackling like this (I used the same earphones to judge the music from PC and TV).
However my cable is perfect (good quality scart RGB) and the crackling is a little more noticeable playing from SMB (it was even like a broken whine with some past builds, or maybe it was when playing on the Ps2 slim, I'll check it as soon as I can).

Not a matter of cables in my case (and I'm not the only one experiencing this: http://www.ps2-home.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5229 ).

Maybe is something related to the timing in reading the data… However is hardly noticeable, not really a problem. Plus it seems to completely disappear after a while (maybe the main menu is accessed with a not perfect timing, making the music to screw up a little at the beginning [?] ). I'm throwing it there…

@jolek I tried OPL you send me. With it I can't reach the main menu at all (with or without MODE 2).

Then I tested the last build I downloaded some days ago, OPNPS2LD-SMB-UPDATE-190210 With this one I can play from SMB even with MODE 2 enabled, so the stutter is gone :D

"Crackling" would be an issue with OPL. The cable can only cause whine-like noise and/or buzzing. Also, you can never tell if your cable is OK just by looking at it. It can be very thick on the outside and have "golden" connectors, but that's just marketing. The only quality cables I know of are from certain eBay sellers who hand-make every single one with true shielded AV wires and the right high-quality components.

There is no crackling from the retail disc and there was no crackling via iHDD in HDL 0.8c and OPL 0.9.2.

I haven't modified OPL 1319 at all.
It is version compiled by El_Patas.

I can also test OPNPS2LD-SMB-UPDATE-190210.ELF:
http://www.psx-place.com/threads/open-ps2-loader-v0-9-3.13415/page-28#post-157634
but I doubt that something significant was done in release for this game.

EDIT: Also with OPNPS2LD-SMB-UPDATE-190210.ELF I need mode 2 for this game through SMB.
Without it I've annoying sound at start in intro and every 10\11 sec little stuttering.

I've only one gold plated scart RGB cable and it's the worst I have…

In short, when the main menu appears I can immediately acces the option screen (or another screen), and the music is 100% perfect from start to finish (either from USB, SMB, HDD).

By this I Always thought to some performance problem related to the main menu-shadow girl animation.

Tomorrow I'll try the game with OPL 0.9.2 from iHDD (I forgot before, only tried from SMB).

I will test RRV NTSC-US as soon as I get my hands on the disc again. It should play perfectly via iHDD and no "patches" (can't see how a game would need a patch when it played perfectly to begin with).

I tried with MODE 2 first and BSOD after the Loading screen. Then I tried with all MODEs OFF… same thing! with the harvest moon build I was using I was able to play the game fine without MODEs (from SMB) it freezed with MODE 2.

With OPNPS2LD-SMB-UPDATE-190210.ELF instead I can play the game with or without MODE 2 (better with MODE 2 for solving the stutter).

Tomorrow I'll try the game with OPL 0.9.2 from iHDD (I forgot before, only tried from SMB).

Just tested it :D ...Same behavior with OPL 0.9.2/0.9.3 iHDD It's like a slightly ruined vinyl for about the first 10/15 seconds of the main menu music. All is perfect entering another screen. ( I noticed that the namco logo stutter can happen with these old OPL revs too, it seems depending on using or not MODE 2).

- tried it with only MODE 6 on OPL 0.9.2,
- with OPL 0.9.3: MODE 6 only and MODE 6+2

@Peppe90 I'm curious, are you able to launch any game through SMB with OPL 1347?

I'll download and test it Tomorrow.

I just tried 1347 on SMB (downloaded from the link in the psx-scene beta thread), it won't launch any game on SMB, so something has broken in the latest round of updates.

Nothing like that happened to me. Try 0.9.2 and 0.9.3, but with slow HDD access/accurate reads (Mode 1), unhook syscalls (Mode 3) and disable IGR (Mode 6).

Never use Mode 2 with RRV.

Can someone help i buy NA sata ver last week, put in my 50000 ps2 with seagate 500gb hdd and i use opl 0.9.3 the game wont show at all same with ver 0.9.2 but when i use ver 0.9.0 or 0.9.1 the game show and play well.are there something i need to do so my game will show on opl 0.9.3

PS2ESDL is USB only. But aside the fmv stutter I never found problems during gameplay with any game (using rev. 0.821).
RRV plays exactly as from iHDD with it (just a slower loading time).

PS2ESDL is not only USB, it also allows to use on a PS2 type FAT (<SCPH50k) link iLink that I tested on more than 300 games, a compatibility list has been created and distributed on the NET.

Tested Ridge Racer V SCES_500.00 from internal HDD with OPL r1347.

It plays perfectly without any Modes. I can't hear a single thing wrong with the audio in the Main Menu nor the gameplay.

@sp193

I tested the game with the Ps2 slim (75004). It's definitely a Ps2 related problem. RRV must be one of those games not perfectly compatible with some Ps2 models (newer probably…).

Sorry, the audio quality isn't very faithful but it makes the idea. I previously thought it was a SMB problem ('cause I was testing with the slim when OPL-RRV came out), but seeing that with the FAT the behavior was different makes me to think about the Ps2 model.

With the FAT (39004) the music is almost perfect. Probably with a 10004 it would be 100% perfect (maybe even with certain newer models).

@Tupakaveli Which Ps2 model you have?? Are you sure the music is 100% perfect at the beginning (it's very difficult to notice, it takes a fine ear). It can help you to notice possible unprecisions to enter the option menu as soon as the main menu appear, listen 2 secs,. then exit to the main menu listening carefully…

However it's related to the Ps2 model. I bet even with the original CD game it would be the same on the slim (75004).

@jolek With OPL 1347 I can't boot games from SMB (tried with both Ps2 fat and slim).

PS2ESDL is not only USB, it also allows to use on a PS2 type FAT (<SCPH50k) link iLink that I tested on more than 300 games, a compatibility list has been created and distributed on the NET.

I didn't know about this! So it would work on my 39004 right? This way FMV can be played smoothly??

So you're using a Gamestar Network adaptor? Check what Wlaunchelf says in the HDD manager at the voices "CONNECTED" and FORMATTED" and see if it can list all your games
