PS3 Organising arcade roms in separate playlists?

I recently started using Retroarch CE, which I love! It's very stable and I keep adding stuff to it, pushing it towards a more and more complete retro-machine :chuncky:

I have the FBA2012 complete romset and.. well, it's big. I would really like to be able to sort it in separate playlists, so I can actually find a game without flipping through 24 pages of FBA2012's roms. I would like to categorize my Neogeo games, CPS1, CPS2 and so on. The favorite tab isn't enough to sort everything, that's reserved for the best of the best.

I already tried loading up a .dat / .xml file (for my mame2003 romset), but the filesize is too large. So that doesn't seem to be the best way to go about it.

What do you guys suggest is the smartest way to do this? I really don't want to have to sort all roms by hand, before scanning them (unless there's no other way)..

You need to make playlists by hand with custom playlists names. Scan feature always will write them as they are intended to be displayed.

So, split games to separated dirs (like i.e one for CPS1, one for CPS2 etc.), then scan dirs on PC for each content. Then rename each playlists and fix the paths (CTRL+H) to match PS3 environment.

thanks Berion. I know how to make custom playlists, so that shouldn't be a problem.

So there isn't a smart way to sort the roms from a complete rompack, instead of cherrypicking them by hand?

There is not. At least I have no idea about anything near to what You want to achieve.

When RA switched from standard let's say, INI type playlists to JSON, I have hope they would add subdirs support, but no. :/ I have some split i.e NES library to separate playlists because I couldn't find any better way to i.e put all "Kunios games" with crazy title names in easy to find menu etc.

I now used a couple of "FB Alpha v0.2.97.27 (ClrMame Pro XML)" .dat files I found online, with separate romsets (close enough for the FBA2012 v0.2.97.29 romset). This means one each for CPS 1, CPS 2, CPS 3 and NeoGeo. Using these with the directory import function on PS3 worked great and I've got these roms sorted.

Unfortunately the online thumbnail importer is quite finicky, so I used a FBA screenshot-pack I found & used it for all systems individually.

Also, There's lots of clones and clutter-versions in the list - but hey, this at least is a lot better!
