PS2 OSDSYS does not load on SCPH-10000

I'm having an issue getting OSDSYS to load on my SCPH-10000. Everything else I've tried to run seems to work as expected, but trying to load the browser from FMCB just results in a black screen. I have FMCB 1.966 that I installed myself onto an official SONY memory card. I'm able to load OPS and uLaunchELF so in general the system is working but I'm sad that I can't load it to the browser when it first starts up.

The system is mod-chip free, and I did a clean install of FMCB using the noobie package onto a fresh SONY official memory card. FWIW I tried all variants of the install, Normal, Cross-Region, Cross-Platform and Multi, all with same results.

Any hints on how to debug further?

Just in case anyone else is having a similar issue, hold Start when booting up and it will take you into the FMCB configurator. From here you can modify E1 launch keys to change Default to, e.g. OLP that's on the memory card, don't forget to save settings, and you'll at least have a functioning system.

Are you 100% sure that your console does not have a modchip:

If yes, then this is a quite strange situation or there might be something wrong with FMCB 1.966, because...

Here is a quite similar problem with a console (SCPH-10000) with a modchip:

Here a report from a console (SCPH-10000) without a modchip:

Did you download FMCB from its official site:

Hey Jolek, thanks for the response!

I made a quick video of myself going through the steps to clear up any doubts:

In short, the system is confirmed modchip free, I opened it up and examined the motherboard (there's a picture in the video at about 20 seconds in). In the video I go through the entire process of downloading, formatting the MC, and doing a fresh install just to demonstrate there is no weirdness and it seems to be an issue with 1.9666 not being able to load OSDSYS on these models. Everything else seems to work as expected.

I'm happy to provide additional debugging, and can run and compile something custom if that helps to diagnose, or if you can point me in the right direction can try to do that myself, I maybe have enough programming skills if I knew where to start :)

Thanks!

The first PS2-Models need additional Modules installed (and the 70k as well for booting from HDD).
Maybe it fails on the normal OSDSYS without them as well?

I thought that was exactly the support that was supposed to be added in 1.966 in order to support these older models, or do you mean it would require some additional special handling for the modules in the hacked OSDSYS?

Thank you for your video.

Hmm maybe something went wrong and nobody knows where!?
Judging by the description no additional modules for SCPH-10000 are needed:
The "Early Japanese"/PCMCIA units (SCPH-10000, SCPH-15000 and SCPH-18000) are fully supported.

Only @sp193 could fix it...

Anyway could you try to test other FMCB's builds?

1.953 did the trick! I installed that version and booting immediately into the hacked browser! Guess there was a regression between that one and 1.966

Thanks so much for the help! I guess I'll just run on 1.953 from now on unless there's a new release, and if anyone needs an SCPH-10000 to try out a fix let me know I'd be happy to help.

Wow! This is something new.

If you have free time can you additionally try:
1.965:

1.964:

1.963:

I think that the regression was somewhere between 1.964 - 1.965.
