PS3 PASTA 4.84 COBRA 8.1 (DEX) CFW by Joonie

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) CFW development and really just development in general has been stuck in high gear after an initial slow start with the release of 4.84 OFW but developer's now seems to be rolling along at a rapid pace with new advancements around every corner and that has not stopped as it seems everyone is getting a little love on the PS3 .This time around those that have DEX FW needs on your debug units, CFW developer @Joonie has you covered with a new flavor of PASTA (DEX) COBRA CFW that now includes the once again updated COBRA payload to the NEW version 8.1, all details surrounding the changes and this latest DEX Cobra CFW can be found in the release notes provided by @Joonie.

Also see the other PASTA flavors here (such as a standard version)

    Patch notes:
    • Font fix (some old games that use system font now display all letters correctly, Polish letter fix is removed due to this change )
    • PS3Xploit support (The old webkit is brought back to allow PS3Xploit support, HAN can be used)

    Cobra 8.1 (Enabled by Default)
    1. Stage0 now supports kernel & VSH plugin on both Cobra and non-Cobra mode.
    Cobra mode
    *dev_hdd0/boot_plugins_kernel.txt* required for kernel plugin
*dev_hdd0/boot_plugins.txt* required for VSH boot plugin

    non-cobra mode
    *dev_hdd0/boot_plugins_kernel_nocobra_dex.txt* required for kernel plugin
*dev_hdd0/boot_plugins_nocobra_dex.txt* required for VSH boot plugin

(Rebuilding database can remove these two flag files to disable plugins.)

    2. loadoptical flag is created when stage2 is not running even after HDD format
*non cobra mode only, this is only beneficial for BC/Semi BC users who do not use Cobra*)

    Thanks to @habib

@Joonie I know you are not the developer of PSNPatch, but do you know why block PSN access isn't working on DEX?
PSNPatch was designed for CEX consoles.
Installing the PSNPatch Safety Plugin

THE SAFETY PLUGIN DOES NOT WORK ON DEX FIRMWARE. Some people have also reported boot issues with the plugin on 4.82 firmwares. The safety plugin will prevent you from connecting to PSN unless you have run PSNpatch or used a button combo to run it.

Is there any possibility to load ps2 games from disc on non bc consoles?

it's hard to implement such feature since the OFW ps2netemu doesn't have this function

I was referring to the patch that disables Fake Save Data Owner, & Game Quit notifications. I don't see it on the list, so I guess not.

You can grab that from REBUG and replace it over FTP :), I left it as is since that's part of "DEX OFW" feature.

That's what I've been doing already. I just thought it would be handy for you to include, but since you've said that it's actually a feature (& not an annoyance) I understand why you've kept it :chewie: .

hi am new here and am using ps3 cech 2003A and it's on 4.84 and what ever i do is not working please help

Assuming you're on 4.84 OFW, you'll need to do the following things: 1: Install 4.84 HFW. 2: Use the PS3Xploit flash writer to allow CFW installation. 3: Install Rebug 4.84 REX. 4: Convert to DEX using Rebug Toolbox. 5: Install this CFW.

Do I still have to use the version checker? I've got phat
If the PS3 was sent to the official repair service = yes
If you bought the PS3 used (so you dont know if was sent to repair service) = yes

If you bought the PS3 new in a shop years ago, has been always in your house, and you never sent it to repair service... then is not needed to use the minver checker, all PS3 fats (from factory) are compatibles with a permament CFW installation :)

OK. So, to be clear - even though my number is above 3.56, I can use this? Also, do I start off by installing this CFW and it's tied with the jailbreak, or do I jailbreak first, then get this off of **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new)? Sorry, I'm very new to this community, please bear with any stupidity
