playing my ps3 backlog

Since I don't have too much free time for homebrew development lately, I took the chance to play a bit with my "backlog" of PS3 games that I've been missing

So, a few games I finally played from my backlog:

Heavenly Sword: the game mechanics reminded me of the God of War series. It felt like Nariko is (was?) the kung-fu sister of Kratos. I was a bit annoyed of the abuse to the "six-axis" stuff where you had to use the controller to aim cannon balls and stuff... Anyways, it was a nice hack&slash game, but it felt really short. (also, when I was doing a disc backup to my hdd, I was surprised that such short game was ~20 Gb)

WET: I enjoyed this one, a mix of slow-mo acrobatics, swords and guns. In some levels the girl Ruby goes berserk and it feels that you're playing a Kill Bill video-game. Low point: the final battle is a joke... you've been shooting and killing everywhere, so by the time you reach the "evil mob boss" you'd expect a big fight against bodyguards, elites or whatever.... instead, they give you a 'QTE' final battle, where after pressing some buttons, you end up killing the albino assassin and the evil boss.

Nier: a great history, probably the graphics and levels feel too simple compared to newer games, and the "shadow" enemies seem really basic, but still, I think the story compensates it.... also, I found out that there are at least 4 endings, so if you want to unravel the whole story you need to play it again, and again, and again. (I only completed the "Ending A")
Also, Apollo Save Tool has a ton of cheats and modifiers for Nier..:D they are specially useful when you need to gather materials to upgrade weapons or complete those silly side-quests

Now I'm playing Resident Evil Zero, and next I want to follow with the first Resident Evil Remaster.

anyways, do you have a PS3 backlog of games you want to play? or some that you missed to play when it was originally released?

PS: for Heavenly Sword and WET, Artemis has some codes available

Lol, the sisaxis control of heavenly sword, i disliked it too, i think they really wanted to use it because it was something innovative at his time, but the implementation is bad, that level with the cannonball or arrows was frustrating lol
The game is nice, a bit short and too much "on rails" (almost no reward to explore the maps and not much side roads), i liked the ending with that battle "musou" style

I have lot of PS3 games i would like to play, lasts i played was all the assassin's creeds (1, 2, 2.1, 2.2, 3, 4, 4.1), lol, it took some time but i wanted to review and compare them and learn about the stories, modern and past
I still love the first one but i cant comment about them, abstergo is watching us

Not sure what i will play next after that overdose of assassin's creeds, i use to merge game genres, maybe some racing... and later some RPG

Yeah, I remember that 'sniper' mission and I remember disabling the SIXASIS and using the analog stick to steer the arrows lol
the final battle is a joke..
King Bohan or whatever he's called, yeah. I've not played it for over 10 years, but I think I remember I died one time during one of the stages of the battle, but apart from that it was pretty easy overall.

Also @bucanero I hope you don't mind but I've moved the thread to Off Topic since it's more actual game discussion and less about the game files etc :) (though I am also surprised the game is 20GB - I would have guessed maybe 4 or 5 given its age and how relatively short it is).

yes, I agree with your opinion, they were trying to "show off" the innovation of the six-axis thing... so they pushed these silly "control the arrows" into the game. Thank god the guys at SantaMonica studios didn't do the same with the God of War games!! :D

indeed, the final battle with the bad king was 'mosou' style, surrounded with enemies everywhere

oh, playing the whole AC saga can take a real long time!! .. I remember my first true "platinum" trophy was with AC2... I had to hunt for like 200 feathers ... I don't want to calculate the amount of time I wasted there :D

oh yes, the only way to actually play Heavenly sword is disabling that sixaxis thing! I got tired/frustrated by it really quick

oh I was talking about the "final battle" in the WET game (where you don't fight at all, just some QTE)

Bohan was a reasonable boss, but beatable, I died a couple of times too... I had to avoid his attacks by timing properly, and then you could attack him for a bit (rinse & repeat, for all the 3 or 4 boss levels)

btw, no worries about the topic moving

and yes, 20 Gb is too much for that game, I was checking and it had many of "how we made this game" videos. I was tempted to rip them away, as half of the game are just those vids.
