Hi guys,
Got a PS3 (CECHC03, which is my brothers) here that has PlayStation Home 1.87 on the PSN column, but this console is on OFW 4.89… whenever I have updated any consoles with Home on them it gets deleted. Somehow this still has it on there as well as Life with PlayStation. First question is how has he been able to update it and leave Home intact? Second if I update it, will it delete it?

I can explain the Home icon behaviour here too for others. The icon used to show up all the time on older FWs XMB when home was still officially online.

So even when Home wasn't installed it acted like a download link, But that download shortcut does vanish when you update to recent FW. As that XMB entry is built into the FW XMBML files and they removed it. Same applies to Folding at Home.

However if the Home application was actually downloaded and installed, then the icon/app will not vanish when you update. Firmware updates whether OFW or CFW or HFW, will not touch any user installed HDD content.

So IF you are on recent FW and you still have the Home icon on your XMB from back when it was officially online, that probably means you have important cache data on your console that we need for preservation. Please consider dumping the dev_hdd0/game/NPIA00005/ folder and sharing it with us.

You can tell if its just a download link or the actual app by seeing if it will let you press Triangle on the Home Icon in the PSN category and see its information.

Hi there,
Thanks for the reply, this certainly answers my question. I'll see if I can get it on CFW and send the file over at some point.
