Good Day All

During the Pandemic I found myself wanting to get back into my PS3.

It is jailbroken with an E3 Card Reader and was working fine the last time I used it about seven years ago.
I'm trying to enjoy her again but it has been way too long to remember how she works.

The firmware says 3.55...not sure if its supposed to be 3.41 or if 3.55 is a CFW?
I have multiman installed...not sure what version
I also see Open Manager installed under the Games

The PS3 is not recognizing any original disks
The PS3 is not seeing any PS3 games in the internal HDD...it was yesterday
Can't launch game discless

I have a NES and SNES emulator installed and I am able to get into those

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

If I'm missing any info please let me know

Thanks

you should update to evilnat or ferrox 4.87 if you want to play online.

if not playing online, rebug 4.86 lite is good but rebug 4.84 rex has some features not available in lite.

you should also update multiman. also install webman mod (for fan control).

sometimes my oldest ps3 will not read discs untill it has running for a while and i restart it. i let it "warm up" for 10 or 15 minutes, then restart and try a disc.

if you have a bluray movie, see if the drive will play it. also try a dvd movie because there are 2 lasers (one dvd and cd, one for ps3 game and bluray movie).

same thing happens with my turbo grafx cd attachment. it won't read discs until you keep trying to force it to read them. after it gets used to it, it then reads discs again. that's actually why I bought a turbo grafx mini. I also am afraid something like that might happen with my ps2, since I don't play it, but it has only a two to three year old laser. it never has issues reading discs, but there have been times where the disc motor would speed up for no reason, and you just have to wait 'til it stops. I've only seen that happen with psx games, and one game in particular. anyway, I don't want that disc drive to die like my old one, so I periodically play the system or force myself to play it really. lol

Would the bluray laser not reading disks explain why the "Games" is not seeing anything on the PS3 hard drive (error 80028F14)?
rebug 4.86 lite...how do Update? My apologies for the newbie type questions...its been a while and I'm getting old...

you might have to go with a nobd version of the firmware. I know not can cause games not to run at all.

edit: I looked up that error on psdevwiki: "An error occurred during the start operation (80028f14)", mostly caused by bad laser / user trying to directboot via app_home instead of mounting first / old/ancient payload / with malformed PARAM.SFO (unsupported or corrupted data ICON).

edit 2: I think nobd is usually for people who get a black screen though, so it may or may not help.

I'm making progress!!!

I couldn't find rebug 4.86 lite easily but I did find multuMAN v04.85.01 (BASE) and installed that

From the home menu under "Games" I selected multiMAN which brings you to a screen with a cursor that can only be controlled by the PS3 controller thumb pad (sound familiar??). I selected multiMAN again from that screen and was able to load games from the internal HDD and external HDD.

Not sure installing v04.85.01 made any difference because I never tried multiMAN in the second screen with the thumb pad navigation.

I seem to vaguely recall years ago that the PS3 would not read disks before with my setup...possibly a byproduct or tradeoff of the jailbreak??
I also seem to vaguely recall something about booting with the power button followed by the eject button quickly...does that sound familiar?

So as of right now I've got everything that I want except the PS3 not reading blurays or original game disks. I only have one disk that is not backed up now so I will have to figure out how to put it on either the internal or external HDD...a refresher hint would be great.

Any suggestions to get the PS3 to read my blurays/original discs?
Maybe copying my game to an HDD will at least tell me if the laser works.

Additional Info:

When placing a bluray or original game disc into the PS3 it goes in and spins. After about 30 seconds there is a light clunk noise.

Perhaps I have to keep working the laser as pinky had suggested???

Dont install noBD firmwares, that was a bad advise

The button sequence (power button followed by eject button) was a secret feature used to init the payload from your E3 USB dongle, you dont need to do that anymore, and you dont need to use the E3 USB dongle anymore

Just install a modern 4.87 CFW (evilnat or ferrox) and thats all you need

Also, i suggest you to uninstall all the homebrew you already have installed... then install new versions of them
Actually, the best you can do (because is the perfect timing) is to format or replace the internal hdd

The laser diode specific for bluray discs is "blind", the only way to fix it is by buying a replacement laser pickup, but you dont need it in CFW so there is no hurry, just forget about it by now
