PS2 Possibilities with MechaCon code execution

Somehow Altimit accessing UMCDR with umcdr.irx so how this can be different than games? Also PS2 CD games are on mode2 track, so the only problem would be in block reading of "fake audio" tracks like i.e ESR emulating somehow asynchronous mode in DVD-Video. Anyway, no one ever will look into this deeper for sure, because it is not worth the effort, as You point that games can be just moved and patched to DVD.

What he meant is that there are some flaming hoops to jump though, before it will work like ESR does with DVDs. CD-ROM sectors are actually 2352 bytes in size, but the format depends on what sort of track it is; data sectors have 2048 bytes of storage, while audio tracks will have all 2352 bytes available.

However, since audio sectors have no error correction nor sync, the sectors will be read as how they were read. I think the lack of error-correction by the hardware in CDDA mode is a bad thing; unlike reading of DVD videos, these would end up getting read more or less as how the drive read it, whether it's wrong or right. Ideally, the drive should recognize it as a data disc and let the sectors there be accessed through the right way (whether we're applying some hack or not). If there's also some unlock mechanism or another secret disc type that can be used by the CEX, that would also eliminate the need for this sort of hacks.

Something to validate master discs for example...

I think many devs will continue dreaming about turning a retail unit into a debug one like you can do with modding the xboxes

Unlikely, since it's on a ROM... Maybe we can inject something into it's RAM though, so I don't say it is impossible.

I know, hehe.
I will write an article. ;)

This is ENORMOUS News!
It is indeed, I was quite surprised when I was scrolling Twitter and saw the tweet of it's release. Can't wait to see the article! :D
