PS3 Project RSX Boost: Overclock your Retail PS3 RSX Speeds (ps3 cfw only)

Well, that's TSMC RSX for you. They dont perform the best compared to GGB Sony.

Also the guy saying 900mhz over 20 slims:
Maybe he overvolted the chips, maybe he got lucky on them all. Model number and RSX revision are all too general
Is there an updated table where I can put my RSX, Node (nm), FAB, MFG, VIDBin, MB rev. and lvl1 RSX String?
I can only find a short table from RIP-Felix from 2024, is there an updated google sheets table somewhere?

So I have a few results from messing around with Evilnat 4.92.2 on CECHA00 and CECH-2503B.

CECHA00 can maintain a stable overclock at 600/750 - yes that is original 90nm RSX so you be the judge of how nuts that is, but I've put a fair few days of runtime on it since doing that (probably 10) and have seen no issues whatsoever. Doesn't really push the RSX temp up more than a few degrees as compared to stock. It had a full strip/clean/repaste with MX-4 in August 2023 when I got it, and it was on 47 days runtime versus about 64 days total now. If you push for even 650/800 the screen will immediately stop updating; no artifacts and WebMAN still responds to a reboot so it's not fully softlocked.

CECH-2503B I'm still testing, but I think not the best nor the worst silicon lottery for a 40nm RSX. This is stock minus 320GB HDD swapped for 240GB Crucial SSD, haven't had a chance to strip/clean/repaste yet. Interestingly the RSX usually runs a good 8-10ºc cooler than the CPU; when fan ramps up it's always the CPU.

Best I've seen stable testing with inFAMOUS for now (not the most stressful but it does have unlocked FPS and will go between 60 and 30 and sometimes below) is 750/900. As soon as I start pushing to 800MHz/950MHz the XMB flickers, and the game will run and play but with moderate artifacting. 900/1050 on XMB it reds out and screen won't update. 750/900 and RSX rarely even hits 60ºc - tends to happily sit at 58ºc probably partly because the Cell is ramping the fan.

Question I have is, if I'm gentle from cold boot and nudge up from 500/650 stock it'll happily run 750/900 for hours at a time. If I push my luck and go for 800/950 it'll artifact, and even immediately dropping back to stock clocks it'll still do that. What would be the reason?

The RSX is cooled by the HOT AIR from the CELL. Your RSX cannot be cooler than the air temperature coming out of CELL into the RSX heatsink. If the CELL is exhausting 70C air into the RSX heatsink it cannot be lower than that temp.

While I appreciate the response, it answers a question that I didn't ask while overlooking the one I did.

Thank you.

It doesn't work like that. the heat transfer to air is far from 100% efficient :)

Edit: I misread. If the air was somehow 70C then the yes that is the lowest temp possible

Man it's sad this thread has slowed down to a crawl. Miss when it was super active and full of excitement and testing. I hope the Cell eventually gets like this in the future.

If you guys have any pictures of your RSX IHS could you please DM them to me? I'm trying to collect as much info about the best overclocking chips as possible and it might help clear some things up. Any additional info about the console would also be helpful

I think the forum got heavily restricted to stop spammers, I know some people who used to post and have basically stopped completely because they can't.
There's also not really much else to learn, we know some of the 40nm chips clock the best, and every other chip clocks worse than them (including 28nm ones).

I mean the GGB is the best over clocking chip period. I got a bunch of them cause I know how to easily find them. Always Gaurenteed. They are the hardest to find though. But I always find them. Got a collection of them. 25xx slim are my all time favorite.
