PS VITA / PS TV PS Vita: YouTube App Wont Be Supported - Map Apps Removed In Upcoming Firmware Update

Sometimes I'm just at a loss of words when it comes to Sony and their constant removal of features for their devices. PS3 had allot taken away, the PS4 has many left out and now the struggling PS Vita is their next victim. The PS Vita YouTube app has been taken down and unavailable for download and will not be supported come April 20th. Well at least it was not April 1st I guess. Then in the next tidbit of news is [break][/break]the PS Vita Maps and Near applications that will be eradicated form your handheld in a upcoming firmware update in March. The only good news there is the mention of the firmware update, so scene developers please take note and not release any exploits unless you want them patched by Sony.

PS Vita YouTube App No Longer Supported:

The YouTube application for PlayStation®Vita (PS Vita) will no longer be supported after 20 April 2015, and the application will cease to be available for download from PlayStation®Store on 28 January, 2015.

Users can continue to enjoy YouTube via the "Browser" application, and will be able to access their YouTube data, such as playlists and channels, by signing in to the same Google account via the "Browser" app and on other devices. (Your browser is deprecated. Please upgrade. - YouTube)

PS Vita Maps and Near Applications:
All features of the [Maps] application and some features of the [near] application will be disabled with the PlayStation®Vita system software update planned on March, 2015.

Functionalities of the applications will be removed automatically once users update their PlayStation®Vita.

The disablement of features will not affect gameplay.

And the removal of features starts, i dont mind about the maps and near aplications but why youtube? sony always screwing us, someday ill sell this dam console and buy a 3ds

Yeah I agree. I know that we can view them browser side but the app is there and is better to use. Just like on my android, I use the app rather than using the browser.

Something tells me there is more behind this then a simple removal of an app, Sounds like Sonys getting F'ed with by the Media Providers. Just like netflix. Youtube is a major media site that at the moment is trying to monetize itself by offering full movies for rent. I think the players in the game are trying to squeeze any competition out. The Internet and technology is in a transition period, Business are finding new ways of generating money from this technology. I see this kind of thing happening for awhile till the winners of this new tech war are chosen.

There is way to install pkg (official) from diffrent source than PSN on PS Vita? From memory card or thru bubble exploit? If yes then youtube should still work if is a browser-style aplication like on ps3. Just simply hack to not use psn need to be apllied in one html file.

Youtube for vita is still downloadable on ***PlayStation Store***, maybe is good time to backup it for PS Vita users.

I really do not understand Sony's Logic.

Lets discontinue a free service, on a mobile gaming device where it would be useful for YouTube. Dumb move sony.

Your app on the android can serves as 2nd screen (remote features) on your PS3 :)

"....Sony and their constant removal of features for their devices. PS3 had allot taken away...."
Well said.

I think what really got the PS3 "Homebrew" movement going strong was when OtherOS was removed.
To this day I still have a CECHA01 running YDL from way back when. (Does anyone remember zerojayzero and The Zero Game Project ?)

My guess is as soon as they pull something useful from the PS4, all eyes will turn to cracking the thing wide open to put it back.

Go ahead Sony, then next move is on you....give us a reason.

There should be a way to install a Youtube app throught the Package Installer but this only work with FW up to 3.18 (at the moment)

will test it maybe...

but you also can backup the youtube app with CMA, open CMA or QCMA on PC or PS3
the question is if the app will continue to work?
