PS3 PS2 Classics Config Format/Bytecode

Hello all,

I am a modder who has extensive experience in Wii modding, but relatively low experience on the PSX side of things. I am writing here because I am currently trying to make a custom config for a certain game, Street Fighter Alpha Anthology, to make it work as a PS2 Classics release.

I have searched around on the Web, and I've come across a database of config files for every game, and many of them were custom-made by the community. There's even a config made for this game, but it still doesn't fix multiple issues such as missing textures (the wiki seems to imply that the config itself may actually cause those missing textures, but I'm not experienced enough to tell.)

However, no amount of searching has led me to any form of documentation on those config files. Looking at the wiki, it seems like some proprietary bytecode that Sony's PS2 emulator parses to apply patches to the games, but it seems weird that considering the vast amount of custom config files made by the community, there is little-to-no documentation on the byte code itself.

If I were to attempt to make a config file for this single game, where would I be able to find documentation on the format?

Hello,

There is a list of the CONFIG's bytes at
https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/PS2_Emulation#Game_CONFIG
Some are still unknown or only known partially, there is also
https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/PS2_Official_Configs
https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/PS2_Custom_Configs
which explain more about what the configs do.
Hopefully this helps. Some games are broken by the configs to make the game playable, so things like broken textures might appear but this is usually to stop a game crashing, there isn't always a perfect way to make a game work, but good luck on your attempt and i hope you can get the game working.

Good luck.
