PS3 PS2 Discs coming up as "Data Disc" on Evilnat 4.90 CEX

I have a backwards compatible CECHC04 PS3 and for some reason burned PS2 discs come up as "Data Disc" and they aren't properly recognized as a PS2 Disc. Normal PS2 Discs work tho.
I'm running on Evilnat CFW CEX 4.90
Cobra is CEX 8.4.
Any suggestions?

Your using either a internal ssd or sshd, you need to use a normal internal hdd for burnt ps2 discs to work properly.

i SWEAR it worked with the SSD as well :<
also why would that be making any issues, it's just a storage method, no?

I believe that PS3 systems are not designed to play nice with SSDs. They were never bundled with any PS3 system during the PS3's life, and SSDs didn't become mainstream until the late 2010's.

Many folks on PSX-Place have reported a variety of issues when using SSDs with their PS3s, so I would advise you to replace your PS3's SSD with an HDD and then see if doing so has solved your problem.

Can I swap between my old HDD and SSD without losing data? I know the PS3 makes you format the drive when you insert a new one in, does this count for old drives used by the same system as well?
 
@Berion is knowledgeable about how to do that. I hope that they will respond soon, now that I have mentioned them. They have answered a similar question on PSX-Place before.

you can swap back and forth, yes. this is how some people use dualboot pups. one hdd with dualboot and another with cfw.

Okie, so I tried it with the old 60GB HDD that came with the console and it works! It recognizes the PS2 disc! Now.. Is there a way to make it work with the SSD in? Or is that impossible, and if I do look for a hard drive are there any known ones that do work? I'm really looking for something that's 1TB so I can store a lot of games.

And yes, the issue does return when I use an SSD again.. I spent 50 dollars on ittt and I can't return it ;-;
 
To add to this, I just tried another HDD I pulled from another PS3 and it has the same issue, I don't think it's cause of the SSD, it seems to only work if I have the hard drive that came with the console ://
And that's only 60GB >.>

i have seen some weird problems fixed by changing hdd. two consoles of mine would not install/enable hen (i also remember at least one member with the same experience). the drives worked fine in other ps3's but not their original ps3. perhaps it works in reverse also? lol

i do not know if it will help, but you can try formatting the one that does not work on a PC as NTFS. the ps3 will format again but doing it as NTFS first seems to help sometimes.

Alrightyyy, so I tried formatting it as NTFS today inside of a program as well, I wrote all the sectors to 0, format as NTFS, put it in my PS3, put a disc in aaaaand nothing. Still comes up with that stupid "Data Disc" symbol! Someone told me to try cloning the hard drive that came with my PS3 and see what I can do off of that, but I have no idea how to clone PS3 drives! I can hook them up to my computer just fine, that's not an issue, I just don't know which program to use so I don't mess up the partition table. What would you guys recommend?
 
Well, normally user cannot exchanging internal drives. But for some reason in some circumstances it can without formatting. I dunno why.

Them? They? Berion is only one. In PRL times (communist Poland), it was common to talk in other people in plurar form but those ugly times are thank God the past now. ^^

Cloning will not help You in anything. I'm pretty sure, the issue is not related to data on HDD. But if You insist: on Windows use DMDE or HDD Raw Copy Tool. On Linux dd or ddrescue.
 
it's one of the bugs stated by the original cobra dev years ago,, and for me it always has been hit or miss
