PS2 PS2 HDD Connected: No

Hi all this is my first time modding a fat PlayStation 2 so I've been following guides on YouTube and within these forums but I've encountered a bit of a roadblock. No matter what I do neither of the 2 ps2 consoles I have will detect a SATA drive attached to them. Here are the steps I've taken so far:

When I say no connection I mean in the HDD tool in uLaunchElf it says:
Connected: No | Formatted: No

1) Bought game star adapter before reading they weren't very good and connected a 500gb sata ssd. No connection
2) Bought a Kaico SATA adapter thinking it might work better and connected the same SSD. No connection
3) Transplanted the SATA board from the Kaico adapter into my official IDE adapter and tried to read the drive that way. It was faster, but still no connection.
4) Bought a 500gb 3.5in HDD that I read was compatible in the list (Seagate drive). Still no connection.
5) Bought a used ps2 on eBay with a faulty disc drive but the expansion bay covered. (My original one came with an empty OEM HDD adapter and I read maybe they removed it and blew a fuse while the console was on) connected it to both my SSD and HDD using the transplanted adapter. No connection.
6) I have a purple SATA board from eBay hopefully arriving Friday but if that doesn't work I'm at a complete loss.

All of the tutorials I've watched have made it seem so easy, just buy a SATA adapter, plug it in and format the drive. But my ps2's cannot see the drives at all. What am I doing wrong?

(I've also tried updating OPL and using an eXFat format drive with games on it but that fails saying it cannot see the drive either)

Check your console by disassemble it.
It seems the PS9 or PS10 fuse which responsible for powering up the NA/HDD is blown and needs to replaced.

Before doing anything try checking the HDD status with wLaunchELF 4.43x_isr

It will tell you the HDD status number. wich could help to narrow down the culprit list

Unfortunately, I didn't get a status message which means it's most likely the fuses. I don't know how to solder so I have the systems to a friend of mine who does and who has fuses ready, so I'll post again if that fixes the issue.
