If the Console, has CFW then yes backup PlayStation2 Titles are accepted via Optical Disc.Is it possible to use burned discs then or is that also not possible?
Did you bothered to read my answer before? If the Console has Custom Firmware, like PlayStation2 has ModChip, then it will accept Burned-Optical Media, if the PlayStation3 has Official Firmware, then Backups are out of the question. Is it just accepted by default or is there a process behind making it work?
I knew custom firmware had to be used but I meant more so is there some process behind making the discs work on the PS3 with custom firmware. I'm on Rebug 4.84 with a backwards compatible PS3 model but yet my attempts to burn discs have resulted in a black screen for a few seconds then back to the menu. Is there some option to turn on or some special way to set up discs to work? Also, sorry for not replying sooner!Did you bothered to read my answer before? The same Backup Discs that you use on the PlayStation2 will work just fine on the PlayStation3.
Why not boot OPL from prepared ISO? Assuming that @Emeralda PS3 is on CFW.One advantage though on the Backwards Compatible is that you can boot OPL, Open PS2 Loader, the same Homebrew used in the Original PlayStation2, which gives you the ability to load via External Hard Disc, that can be executed with the help of Swap-Magic, although compatibility is not guaranteed.
How do I go about doing that exactly? Do I just find an iso or a pkg or is there something else I need to do?Why not boot OPL from prepared ISO? Assuming that @Emeralda PS3 is on CFW.
Try one of those iso, https://www.psx-place.com/threads/o...for-use-with-the-ps3.12286/page-3#post-184191 i don't know it gonna work. After some changes OPL stopped to boot on BC systems, so is possible that you need even older build. How do I go about doing that exactly? So I just burn that iso to a disc or do I manually load it onto my PS3 then load it from there? Also, how does this process actually work? If it boot then follow standard OPL usb procedure like on PS2.
The only requirement is your CFW shouold have cobra enabled, as far i remember that patch to allow burned discs was integrated into cobraSo I just burn that iso to a disc or do I manually load it onto my PS3 then load it from there? I looked through every thread I could and I couldn't find anything that would actually help me in this case since I wanna play burned PS2 games specifically and all I see is talk about PS3 burning and I've looked through options on Multiman and Rebug Toolbox without finding any options for burning discs at all. Isn't there any kind of tutorial about this thing or some program that burns the PS2 games properly for the PS3 to read? The only requirement is your CFW shouold have cobra enabled, as far i remember that patch to allow burned discs was integrated into cobra
And for the discs media is the same stuff than the PS2, verbatim and ritek uses to work better
There is a thread in the forum made by deank where he published the patch and later other people was discussing what they was doing to burn the discs
Right now i cant imagine which keyword could be used to search for that thread, but try to find it

I did everything you listed and all I get is it loading to a black screen, flickering a few times, then returning to the home screen so I have no idea what is going on!Dump your selected PlayStation2 Title into your Computer, use any Recording program of your choice, such as Nero or ImgBurn, insert a Standart 4.7GB or Dual-Layer 8.4GB DVD, depending on the Titles Size, into your Computer´s Disc Drive, select the Option - Burn to Disc, and Burn the PlayStation2 Dump you´ve made before, writte at the lowest speed possible, 2x should be fine, once the program finished burning the disc, check in the disc matches the original contents from the disc you´ve made a backup, each PlayStation2 Disc, when inserted into a Computer shows as SLUS/SCES/SPLM-XXXXX, make sure the Disc´s Title is that as well, after all its checked, insert the Disc into the PlayStation3 and you are ready to execute it, no patches are needed, the Backup discs you execute them on a modded PlayStation2 will work for the PlayStation3, assuming you have Custom Firmware.

I have one of those early models though! I have a CECHE01 which is a pretty early model as far as I know so it should work but it isn't and I don't know why! I don't know what is causing it to not work!hes either BSing you or he doesnt know, you need a BC console to boot ps2 games from the optical drive, reason being it uses a different and much more complete 'emulator' than the one non-BC consoles use, the latter uses ps2 netemu which doesn't have peripheral/network support and most importantly, it's designed to only boot .iso files from the internal hard drive. No physical ps2 gaming for us 40/80gb-slim-ultraslim plebs.
