PS2 PS2 SLIM MODBO 5.0 EXTERNAL STORAGE

Good day everyone

Im in need of some assistance with my ps2 and i think this is the best place to seek advice.
So i have recently done a MODBO 5.0 chip install on my ps2 slim. The chip works great, no issues there. The only thing thats keeping me back is that you can only transfer files of up to 4GB with the FAT32 USB format.
So ive looked around on a couple of forums trying to hook up an external HDD to my PS2 to run or store the games on but i havent had the best of luck there.
Does anyone maybe know how to do this? My idea is to have OPL on my USB. So in essence the PS2 will boot from my USB and load games from the HDD. I dont know if its possible.

Any help and guidance will be highly appreciated.

What do you mean by booting from USB? Dev3 mode from modchip? Does Modbo 5.0 having that? If yes, and because modchip FWs are ancient, they understand only first partition on MBR, with FAT32 fs. So then you have few options:
  1. Stay on FAT32 on MBR and slice games like in ancient times (read about USBUtil v2.00 and "ul.cfg" file).
  2. Use first partition with FAT32 on MBR, large enough to fit all OPL resources, and second partition on exFAT for games. However, only latest OPL 1.2.0 beta supporting multi partitions BDM devices (that feature is around two weeks old, I'm not sure if it is already merged with master).
  3. Similar with opt.3 but instead partitions, just different BDM devices (one with FAT32 for DEV3, and one with exFAT for games). However, only latest OPL 1.2.0 beta supporting multi BDM devices (that feature is around two weeks old, I'm not sure if it is already merged with master).
  4. Instead booting from USB... Install FMCB 1.8b on MC from which you would starting OPL 1.2.0 beta, and use exFAT USB for games and OPL resources.

So by USB boot I mean I've got matrix software on a USB drive to boot into the chip with 2 games in the "DVD" folder that the console created after the setup.
Currently I'm running OPNPS2LD V1.1.0. I wanted to try and use a 128GB USB drive and create 2 separate partitions having the boot software on the first partition and slicing the larger games into the second partition but then I don't know how the folder structure needs to work for the games to be accessible in OPL.
It looks like I'm gonna have to find OPL 1.2.0 and update first before I can try any of these methods.

I did also try to use a program called "FAT32 Format" to make my 128GB USB FAT32 format and slice a game into 5 parts and copy paste it into the "DVD" (system/DVD) folder aswell as putting all 5 files into a folder with the games name (system/DVD/God of war). That obviously didnt work but i thought id give it a try.

Apologies if some of my questions are stupid or dont make much sense. Im very new to the MODBO system.

For me the easiest option here would be option 1. Making my USB drive FAT32 and slicing the games. But my next issue with that is how would the folder structure be?

What do you mean exactly? Something like you described not exist.
but then I don't know how the folder structure needs to work for the games to be accessible in OPL.
OPL automatically creating all folders. Anyway, what you want to do have zero sense. Why games slicing if you plan to use second partition which can be on exFAT instead FAT32?
and slice a game into 5 parts and copy paste it into the "DVD"
Sliced games, along to index file must lie on root, not in CD/DVD folders.

It is not system, it is modchip. Actually nearly useless nowadays, especially on all Slim models. ;)

Apologies I see where I typed wrong. The second partition won't be FAT32 so slicing is not needed, you're correct.
But do I just paste the games directly into the root of the second partition? Just want to know if there's any spec .elf files or anything similar needed

*.iso and *.zso must be inside CD or DVD folders (depend of media from which image came from). For sliced *.iso into 1GiB parts with funny filenames + ul.cfg, these must be placed in root of partition.
